Skyrim and ATI HD 6970 card: bad performance

I have a 6950 2gb and had the same problem.

There is a problem with the way AA is handled.

In the games graphic options put AA and AF to the off position.

In the controll centre put the settings for AA to performance not quality( the slider at the bottom) and set it to 2x or 4x (the slider at the top)

Everything else can be maxed out.

I went fron 15fps to 45fps.

Let me know if this fixed your problem?

TRY THIS OP

It worked perfectly well

I have the same Mobo as you, Fieel.

and i just installed the new Sappire HD6970 2G and i am having huge problems with it all across the board, from WEI to Skyrim and BF3 is only running in the 30's on ultra.

im working with different drivers now. so i guess im hot on your trail.

any solutions yet? everyone with this problem just seems to let the thread die with now solutions.

well since no one else is posting, this will be my way of BUMPing the thread.

I have since got it half working. it seems now that the WEI gives my card a 7.9

and here's my 3dmark: http://3dmark.com/3dm11/2311985

yeah i'm still running and avg of 30 fps.

any ideas? this blows.

(updated all the drivers, tried old card drivers, rebuilt Ini files, checked voltages to card, done countless other things, but still open to ideas....)

Well looks like i am dropping ATI to go back to Nvidia cards. thanks for all the ... oh yeah, nevermind.

Yep me too, this is the last ATI card i buy since they can't be bothered to optimize their cards properly, and bethesda are just as bad having such a s*** memory leak.. this is unfixable till the dev's decide to start pulling some weight.

They should not make a game moddable then break everyones game at first sign of a patch, typical bethesda relying on the modding communtiy to fix and upgrade their game, look at the NV expanions hell half the mechanic's for that game were made by modders in fallout 3, lazy dev's with too much money!

I'm also having this problem, and none the "fixes" helped.

CPU: dual core E8500 OC to 3.80GHz

GPU: AMD 6970

RAM: 4gb corsair 1333

OS: 64bit Win

Catalyst drivers 11.12

My computer should at the very least be able to run smoothly on medium/high.

I can only play smoothly on low settings fraps says 40-50fps, 30-40fps medium but stutters, and 15-25fps ultra/high (unplayable). All fps recordings taken with no mods active except skyboost which helps by 5 or so frames.
