If there's anything a masochistic cybernetic cyclops once taught me, it's that nothing is quite as satisfying as pounding people with your bare hands. Or rather, with fist enhancing weaponry.

As such, assuming it is within the limitations of the modding tool once it is released and it is something I can handle, I would like to go about improving hand to hand combat in Skyrim with a few choice bits:

  • Either a entire perk tree in itself, or tied to an existing tree in a tangible manner
  • Fist based weapons, or at the very least armor variants that add Hand to Hand damage
  • Special Bonuses for hand to hand
  • Maybe even some quests and the like with emphasis on improving your abilities
  • If possible, Better animations or specific animations for weapon types(claw, wrist blade and knuckle)

The overall goal is to make Hand to Hand both viable and yet believable. If possible, to create scaling outside of the perk "Fists of Steel" for h2h as well.

*1:Its own perk tree, weapons of varying materials (iron to foesworn leather and bones to dragon taloned gauntlets and everything inbetween), and perhaps a unique bonus chance to disarm with power attacks or some such.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perk Concepts

Most of the staple abilities for 1h and 2h are here, but without specialization perks (sword, axe, hammer) I've instead added bruising blows (Attacks damage stamina) knockout blow (A sneak attack specific perk) and a power attack for every direction.

Rather than a speed bonus for dual wielding (not really needed for h2h) I've added a bleeding effect that will stack. This, along with the endurance damage, simulates a rather brutal sort of style that pounds an opponent into submission, rather than finishing it quickly with a hammer, or elegantly with a sword.

There is no particular order or structure yet aside from 2h being a separate branch of the tree.

Perk tree ideas---------------------------------------------------------------------

Feral Warrior(+20% dmg) -5

Bruising blows (Attacks damage stamina)

Disarming strike (Strafing power strike disarms an opponent)

Silent Takedown (A successful sneak attack will knock out [paralyze] a target for 5 seconds)

Technique (Lowers cost of power attacks by 25%)

Feint Strike(backwards power attack stagger opponents)

Brutal Blow (sprinting power attacks have a 25% chance to knock an enemy back, 75% to stagger)

Vicious Strike (Standing power attacks Have a 15% chance to knock out an opponent)

Dual Weilding side tree---------------------------------------------------------

Ravager ("dual Weilding" attacks cause bleeding. Bleeding effect can stack, but is lower damage for a longer time as compared to axe bleeding)

Grasp of Death (Dual Weilding power attacks have a 25% chance to crit for x3 damage. Any crit kills play execution animations)

I would say it's possible. You mentioned Fists of Steel, there's also the Khajiit Claw racial ability as well as armors such as Gloves of the Pugilist that add extra damage to hand-to-hand. I don't know about adding to perk trees or if there's enough unique perks you could come up with for a hand-to-hand tree. I WOULD like to see something like sneak attack + hand to hand = knockout blow where the NPC is down for 60 secs. Would make thief missions interesting when you don't want to kill someone.

I think the general idea could be carried out with relative ease just by simply adding a number of gauntlets like the pugilist gloves that look to be deadly in h2h and adding them to the general loot tables. Ie Pugilist gloves could be found in chests or on lower end enemies, while later on Dragontalon gauntlets could provide deadly weapons to higher end players.

I do like the idea of insta-KO for sneak. I would go so far as to say strafing power attacks should have a good chance to disarm, with standing having a % chance to KO and running forward having a knockback...not unlike Fallout vegas really.

I'll see about whipping together an idea for a perk tree.

I would like to be able to kick. And the kick styles and heights can be based on skill level and armor. Lower skill or heavier armor will make your kicks lower(IE Assassin's Creed style kicks) and wearer lighter armor and having a higher skill level will unlock more kicks, such as spin kicks, hoof kicks, jumping kicks and we can't forget the Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks.

One thing I'd like to mention is that, for simplicity's sake, if this becomes a reality, please try to limit the reliance on other mods.

I tried to get an unarmed mod to work for Oblivion, and it required, a specific patch, 2 animation/graphics mods, and then the unarmed mod itself. So I'd say the more self contained the project is, the better.

Considering this mod could hopefully be as simple as adding some items to the loot table, and if possible a perk tree to support it (imo bare minimum to add viable h2h to the game) I think it could be pretty simplistic barring the adding of animations.

@Beas7ie

Animations would be well beyond my capabilities, and while kicks would be nice I personally would prioritize a perk tree and h2h specific weapons first.

Add to the forward power attack - Upper cut. Knocks opponent on the ground 25% chance, 75% chance to stagger for 3 seconds or something. Only thing I noticed you didn't have a power attack for that could be useful.

I already have that in there:

Brutal Blow (sprinting power attacks have a 25% chance to knock an enemy back, 75% to stagger)

Could change it to the basic forward attack, but eh.

hmmm could change it so that it's a less powerful attack maybe then? so like 25% chance to knock opponent on the ground, 25% chance to stagger?
