seventy7
hi guys. thanks for the very informative discussions in this thread. was wondering on where can i read up on modding basics? i'd really like to study how to create armors for myself and would like to learn on how to go about doing them. there wasa link while back for the oblivion CS wiki ... are all of those specific instructions / formatscompletely compatible for skyrim as well? actually, just wanted to do some basic armor look switching for starters. for example, i would like to have my deadric body armor to look like nightingales.from the mods i've tried out here in the nexus, you just need to copy the mesh of the nightingale to a loose file data folder of the deadric right? how do you 'see' inside the data files in steam to check them out?and how will you know the name of the folders you should put them into?(like where to look for nightingale, and to find out which folder should i put it into overwrite the deadric) thanks guys, your help is much appreciated.-modding newbie. Clarian
how do you 'see' inside the data files in steam to check them out?and how will you know the name of the folders you should put them into? The textures and meshes are all packaged in .bsa files in the steam data folder. You extract them from those with a program called BSAopt. (I don't have a link offhand, but it shouldn't be hard to find.) BSAopt extracts them with the full folder structure, so that's how you know where to put them. So to replace an armor, you just re-name and replace the files of the source armor to the name / location of the target armor.

Ojox
@Clarian, This information is so useful, as it is literally exactly what I've been looking for, however, I'm not familiar with editing the 'channels' (and I'm on GIMP, because I'm a cheapskate) but when I select on the 'alpha channel' it's all already black, am I missing something? :P Many thanks Edited December 23, 2011 by Ojox
