bben46
Oblivion is very particular about having the computer all to itself and it is a hog. Some programs will be able to coexist, but it refuses to work or crashes with many others.. An old video card or low video memory may cause slow downs or crashes. Check the system requirements to see if yours is supported. A built in video or audio system (on your motherboard) can cause problems as they both steal system ram. Use a separate video board and sound card for better results. 1 Gig of system tram is almost necessary. 2 Gig or more is much better. For video ram, 128 is not really enough, 356 is barely enough, 512 is good, more is better. I paid $60 to buy Oblivion, and at least $200 more to be able to play it. (upgrade video card & Ram) It is possible you have some background process running on your system. HP printers were notorious for that, but I think that problem was solved in one of Bethesda's upgrades to Oblivion. Some anti virus progs and spyware can also be trying to run in the background. Be sure to run an antivirus and anti spyware program BEFORE running Oblivion, then disconnect from the internet and turn them off. (be sure to turn the anti virus program back on before going back online) Scheduling programs try to run every few minutes and can cause crashes. Try turning off any other programs, use the instructions you can find in the troubleshooting section to do a clean boot of your system. Low RAM or a slow processor can cause crashes. And be sure to defrag your hard drive. There are lots more suggestions, including many solutions buried in the forum. Look under the tech support section. Sounds like a lot of work just to get a game to work doesn't it Sometimes I think we spend more time getting it to work than playing it. :wallbash:
