Need help squashing bug before releasing mod update

I am now using a quest alias to add a custom item to an npc (instead of dumbly adding it to their inventory..), but am having problems getting this to work without issue.

 

The issue is that sometimes when I kill the npc, I CTD. Or I kill them and then CTD when looting their corpse. Now on my system with my mod list I just don't CTD ever so I know it is something to do with my mod that, again, adds a custom item to that npc.

 

Can someone confirm that I am doing this correctly ?

-add quest that is SGE; add seq file -> (this all works because npc does have item the times I don't CTD)

-add that npc to Reference Alias

using: 'Unique Actor', adding items to Alias Inventory

 

Is this correct ?

 

One possibility--the custom item I'm adding to the inventory of that npc is a map that is akin to 'equippable maps' -- I wonder if it is possible that Quick Loot (mod) isn't liking it. That would explain why this might occur on kill, given that the QL loot window would pop up immediately after the kill..

 

Any ideas ?

Thanks @redrakiton - I've checked and I don't see a problem there.

 

I'm now fairly convinced it is not about CTDing at killing the NPC but rather CTDing at opening that NPCs inventory that includes my custom item. Hm.
