Black Screen/Crash on New Game

I don't even know how to use a mod, all i did was download and install the game through steam, i open it and click play, it goes to the fallout new vegas main menu, but when i click new game i see a split second of the intro then it goes to a black screen and crashes, i have to use ctrl alt delete to close it. Like I said i tried updating my drivers but aside from that nothing else because i don't use mods or anything so i don't have a clue how to fix it or what is causing the problem, any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Well the first thing I would suggest looking at is your computer specs, just to make sure everything is good enough to run the game. Assuming they are, I can think of two things right off to try to fix the issue. First, verify the game cache (right click FNV in the Steam Library and click Properties, then Local Files, and finally Verify Integrity of Game Cache). I've had times where a freshly installed game didn't run until after I did that. The next option, should the verify cache not work, is to reinstall the game. Sometimes files get corrupted or whatnot, so who knows, it might help.

If those don't work then someone with more experience with these issues will have to help you.
