ENB Causing Skryim to Crash on load

So when I try to load a save or just enter a loading screen with an enb, the game just crashes.

I have tried it with just vanilla and skyrim and ENB.

The thing is, I can start a new game fine with Skyrim and play for as much as I want, but as soon as I try to load a save or go into a loading screen, the game just crashes on me.

I have all the correct settings and everything, and the strange thing is I could run the game fine up till I tried Enderal a couple weeks ago and reverted the files. Since then nothing has worked.

I have uninstalled the game completely and redownloaded all the files, but whenever I try to run an ENB, the game crashes. Any tips guys?

System:

I-7 4770

GTX 1070

16GB Ram

Thanks guys!

Hello,

Hope this helps.

Sadly I have done all of these things. Even when i try to run it with JUST the d3d9.dll file and the enb host file, the game crashes on loading. I have tried also downloading an older version of those files and getting newer version of the files. It cant be a mod conflict because I dont have any mods installed and it will still crash. I have also reverted my graphics drivers to an older version and that did not work.

Thanks for trying though!

<It cant be a mod conflict because I dont have any mods installed> good, so we have to focus on ENB. Some other smoking ideas on the fly :

  • Ensure you have not any background programs running, such as intellipoint, fan manager, etc... Look in the system tray icons and use the task manager to target eventual background processes.
  • Need a tool to manage GPU fan speed that works with ENB ? You may try Afterburner, (tested)
  • Use your advanced settings in your antivirus and also firewall if they are independents to create exception rules :

Exclude the skyrim/data folder from scanning.

Allow these applications in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim : TESV.exe, SkyrimLauncher.exe, skse_loader.exe, just to eliminate possible causes...do the same for the ENB folders and files if doable, (*.dll, *.exe)

  • Check this troubleshoot in case something helps. Don't pay attention to the tittle, just ensure everything is ok. Follow each step to the bottom, particularly including the provided links.

Good luck.

Ok! I found the problem!

So for those that have an NVIDIA graphics card

Apparently its a problem with the driver. The .308 ENB files will cause this crash.

I reverted back to the .262 version and it is working again!

Hopefully this helps other people who may have the same problem!

  • 3 years later...

NVIDIA user here.
Using SSE but having the same issue.
I tried installing an ENB mid game because I was having brightness issues.
After installing ENB 0394 and the Apex Preset, I would CTD a couple seconds after clicking CONTINUE from the main menu.
I changed the Preset. That didn't help.
I deleted the ENB completely. That didn't help.
I used Bethini... That didn't help.
And now, I've reverted to a previous version of ENB like a user suggested here... That too, did not work.

I can't believe a damn ENB is causing my game to crash...
Having to start over for the 40th time this week is not what I want to do...
