keterelyon
I'm trying to install More Craftables, Lost art of Blacksmith and Vals Crafting Meltdown, I've downloaded the files with the Nexus download menager, activated them and the .esp files appeared on my Skyrim/Data folder. So at first I've opened the launcher and the "Data Files" option was gray and I couldn't click it, so I've searched and found this: Go to SkyrimPrefs.ini file on Games/The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim/Skyrim and under [Laucher] things should be like this: [Laucher]bEnableFileSection=1 Then on My Games/Skyrim go to SkyrimPrefs.ini under [Launcher] it should be: [Laucher]bShowAllResolutions=0uLastAspectRatio=2bEnableFileSection=1 or [Laucher]bShowAllResolutions=0uLastAspectRatio=7bEnableFileSection=1 I've tried both options to the .ini file from My Games, but none worked. I tried to move my The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim folder from Program Files to Games because I tought the permission Vista asks could be the problem, but it didn't worked either. I tried to activate files on NMM and ticking all options on Plugins but it still didn't worked (lauching the game from NMM or manually didn't made difference either). My game is running perfectly, never crashed and no bugs (even with the lines on both .ini files altered). So guys... I'm out of ideas, the only thing I didn't tried would be re-installing my game, but I don't know if it can help me at all. I'm using Windows Vista Home Basic (yeah... i know it's bad, but I've installed it on an emergency and now I must buy a new pro version of something). Any help please? And thanks in advance
zeromus88
UAC is the devil for editing ini files. Right click the SkyrimPrefs.ini in the my games folder and make sure "read only" isn't checked off. If it's blank, I honestly don't know why that'd happen. :/

But thanks for the answer.
zeromus88
Hmm...honestly, I can't really see why that wouldn't be working. I had the same issue but it was fixed when I unchecked read only, and added permissions to both the game folder and the install folder.

rhophius
maybe too late for this simple possible solution, but try this... Run Notepad in admin mode then open the file and make your modifications and then save it, ive had problems in the past where the AUC has said ERP ERP to me when ive tried to edit ini files, hope this helps. Edit: method incase you dont know how to do this,.,, Startmenu > Accessories > Right click notepad and select "Run as Administrator" Then make your changes and save Edited December 1, 2011 by rhophius
Grimshaw
Try to type : bEnableFileSelection=1 instead of the other one, it worked for me.
tsais
bump, because I don't have any other place to ask for help anymore :( If you're running under Windows 7, and steam and the game are installed in the 'program files' folder, that 'could' be the problem, cause windows 7's new ownership/permissions settings cause a lot of problems for a lot of programs. I'm only answering cause nothing else seemed to help you. you could try to either install steam in a folder directly under C:\, like C:\Steam, then copy all your game files under ..\steamapps\common there (make sure you're keeping the existing folder structure relative to the steam folder intact) With that, you should have circumvented any possible Windows 7 permissions issue. Else, you could go and take ownership of the existing steam folder and all sub-folders. However, I've done that previously with other software that had issues, and sometimes this fixed it and sometimes not. Frankly, I haven't bothered to look into the exact details of Microsoft's annoying new permissions thing, cause I'm sick of them redoing things so every few years I'm supposed to waste a lot of my good time figuring out their new and always failing attempts at making things either more "easy to use" or more secure  Edited December 1, 2011 by tsais
JOR
Your problems would seem to be caused by simple typos in the .ini files. Fixed:[Launcher]bEnableFileSelection=
