Well, I'm not even asking them to know how to make stuff. There's for example still enough paint around to keep the Diamond City wall periodically painted. Plus, you find it all over the place. You don't really need to know anything about manufacturing stuff, to get one of those cans of paint and a brush, and spread it over some cloth to make it waterproof.

Or for tarring something, here's an even simpler idea: just melt some asphalt and spread it over the roof. Put some newspaper over the holes and spread bitumen over it. The bitumen in asphalt melts quite easily. When they repair roads, they heat it to about 300F, and spread it at some point around 160F, then compact it at 140F or lower. It's not exactly needing more than a bucket and a fire, and maybe a pickaxe to get some pieces of the road. I'm guessing they still know how to make a fire, judging by those campfires where the traders sit down.

Though what I was hinting at in a previous message was even more basic than that: just move into some building that has an interior, basically. There are such buildings around, including some that haven't been taken over by raiders. But basically the raiders are smart enough to just go into some building where they have a concrete ceiling over the head. Hell, even supermutants are that smart. But settlers, derp, they can't figure out how to use a door to go between an interior living space and the crops outside. E.g., they can't figure out how to go use a sleeping bag in the basement that already exists in Sanctuary Hill.

It's not really requiring any technological knowledge, education, or even an IQ above room temperature. Hell, even animals figure out how to find some sheltered place, or dig a sheltered space. And if someone can't figure it on their own, they can just watch a rabbit digging a hole, and go "hmm, maybe we could do the same..."

Everybody to the Saugus Ironworks. I wanted that place the second I saw it I was disappointed there was no workshop. If your going to build power armor for your troops there is no where else in the commonwealth that makes as much sense as that location. I think Bethesda dropped the ball with Nuka World raider factions as well. They should have set it up to recruit raider factions at raider bases like the Saugus Ironworks, Federal Ration Stockpile, Quincy, ect. I never did finish the raider quests from Nuka World. I elected to kill all the raiders and free the slaves because it just didn't make any sense attacking a place I already owned and had invested effort in repelling raider attacks. I had to laugh when one of the places they wanted to attack is where I put up raider cages and a deathclaw cage. " Umm so you boys heard about that? "

if that's the case sargus ironworks should be built up a bunch more into like, a functioning town  complete with a larger interior fortified up and some other stuff...

and then you could have the forgers as a minor broad ranging enforcement faction for...
the slag lords
MWUAHAHAHA

also that's true as well about asphalt, totally forgot about it, didn't have to think about it, I figure the radiation made everyone derp too hard or something, I guess cell/worldspace fixes would be in order, hmmm
one thing I was thinking about was prefabs that mimic aspects of those native houses moreso, so that you get interesting burrows etc
but that'd require worldspace to matter in a certain sense, like, you'd want holes in the ground where certain things are, so that you could build the pit houses to begin with etc

but yeah, graphics fixes
forges. like so, huehuehue
would explain why there's still combat armours around in a way too
BTW. 2ND VIDEO IS PRETTY MUCH PROBABLY WHERE FALLOUT GETS ITS WEAPON WORKBENCH FROM

omg, they could be one of the localized factions for the big war, a whole new town, needed to unite the commonwealth~
huehuehuehuehuehuehe

make it so you need to pick between their hardware, or increased manpower.... :D
