Season Unending (Peace Treaty)

Is there any way to not let the Stormcloaks take Markarth? As Markarth being my favorite and home city, as well as already not liking Ulfric & Co. (plus my character's a Dunmer so f those guys), really would rather them not take hold of Markarth.

If not I just might have join the war with the Imperials instead, as much as I loathe the Thalmor.

So I don't have a save from before initiating the the peace treaty.. and apparently there's no way to fail the quest (complete illusion of choice - they agree to a treaty no matter what... ) nor is there a console command that will successfully reset quests/step back a stage. So it looks like they get Markarth no matter what.. lame!

I wasn't too crazy about that meeting either. It made me a little crazy because I didn't understand what was going on and felt like I was being asked to fly blind. And it does seem like there are things that are already in place and no matter what you do or say, it'll happen in it's own way.

Welcome to the world of diplomacy...

Seriously though, the Peace Treaty thing was kind of a crap shoot... I couldn't stand Ulfric's demands. "We want Markarth!" "Ok, you can have Markarth if we get Riften." "Unacceptable, now we want Morthal as well!". I actually went back and did the Imperial storyline first so i could beat the dick-wad up first...

Indeed you can resume the civil war after the MQ is finished. And that's exactly what I did - immediately joined the Imperials and massacred the Stormcloaks (half the time pillaging their forts in werewolf form), ending it all with a nice sweet beheading of that moron Ulfric.

That peace treaty was the tipping point against Ulfric for me.. not that my character didn't already have enough reasons to dislike them.. but finally pushed my character into action.

You know what the most ridiculous part of it all is? When you're retaking The Reach the Imperial General says "Oh and you better damn well help us re-take Markarth, or die trying. It was -your- idea to give it up to the Stormcloaks."

WHAT. :wallbash:

My experience with the Season Unending discussions were quite different from yours, with General Tullius demanding Riften right from the start. I could offer Markath or Falkreath for Ulfric, after which, Ulfric would demand Morthal. In my version, General Tullius seemed like the a**hole. In the end tho, I came to the conclusion that they are both going to try to get what they want (why shouldn't they?). That said, I did a dual save to try both faction campaigns after completing the main story, and Ulfric seemed more concerned about doing good for Skyrim; he allows Elisif to remain Jarl of Solitude for example. Tullius is more Lawful Neutral about it all and more worried about simply doing his job and keeping the Empire together. Both are compelling characters to say the least, but you definitely got fooled by the imperial propaganda J_R if you believed only the imperial side that Ulfric was a complete a**hole. ;)

Funny thing here, letting the Thalmor *censored* stay or making her leave seems to be the single most important thing. That really gave me the impression that the Thalmor have more influence over the empire than is even let on in the game.

I'd have to say #1, F* the Thalmore, and #2, I killed Ulfric, and would have done so again in his afterlife if I was allowed. I'd like him more his his speech wasn't so slow, his guards didn't ignore the pleas on non-nords, and also that he was simply childish. His fight killing the "high-king"? He used a shout to win, that is not a fair & honorable duel, and the people of Solitude have a right to be angry. If he had just done it with his blade, I'd be talking differently. Widowing an inexperienced woman to the throne is NOT best for Skyrim. He could have achieved his goal in easier ways.
