ResidentWeevil2077
Some sad news today - Heath Ledger, star of Brokeback Mountain and portraying the new Joker in the upcoming Batman film The Dark Knight, has been found dead in an apartment in SoHo, Manhattan, NY. I am absolutely shocked and speechless. An article on BBC News confirms this sad news.
ninja_lord666
Thousands of people die every day and no one gives two s**ts, but when a celebrity dies, it's like it's the end of the world! You people are revolting! :verymad:
TheTerminator2004
I agree it's sad that he is dead, of course, but I also agree with Ninja. He makes a very good point.
Malchik
It will be interesting to find out cause of death. If he elected to die why should we feel sad for him? It's what he wanted. I think you are a bit harsh though Ninja. Of course we do not react to the death of most people. We did not know them and never hear about them dying. It would be hypocritical to claim to be affected. But Heath Ledger was not 'unknown' and some people do relate to celebrities (look at the mass hysteria that followed the death of Rudolf Valentino, or more recently Princes Diana). I always feel a moment or two of sadness when I hear about the death of any young person, whether struck down by disease, murdered, a casualty of war, a suicide or killed in an accident. This is not personal loss but just a moment or two of - I'm not even sure if I know what the underlying reason is - a sense of the fragility/futility of life perhaps. I am sure that if I reach a point where hearing of death has no effect on me at all it will be time for me to leave the world too.
ResidentWeevil2077
Apparently, it was an overdose of sleeping pills (whether it was unintentional or not remains to be seen). And nobody really ever wishes to die, and neither does anyone deserve it. Having sentiment like that is called misanthropy (especially when someone dies, even if that person is someone no one cares to hear about anymore). I really couldn't give a flying f**k about young Hollywood (especially Britney... :yucky: ), but hearing something like this kinda makes me stop and think for a bit. Ninja, don't be an ass... Jeebuz, you're even worse than Peregrine (tbh, I absolutely repulse that jerk; I'm glad he's gone).
