Adding a health cost to aimed or non-self spells?

Does anybody know an easy way to have a health cost added to non-self spells? I know you can place a self-damaging spell in the "Equip Ability" slot and then have it only trigger using an "IsCasting" trigger, but then it triggers as long as the spell is charging and on all spell casts rather than just the spell that's supposed to trigger it.

 

I'm sure this can also be done with scripting, but I know pretty much nothing about scripting so that's out of the picture for me unless someone spoon-feeds it to me.
