Quitting, followed by withdrawals, and finally removal of addiction

I always found it strange that you could just be cured of addiction. I'd think hardcore mode deserves a more realistic addiction model. So, you can take the drug to alleviate symptoms, as normal, but the only way to get cured is to stop taking it for a long enough period of time (maybe this could be adjustable). If you wanted to, you could hole up somewhere and sleep it off for a week. Another feature might be withdrawals, which means the symptoms get worse before they better. That -1 perception becomes -2 perception, for example. (Maybe withdrawal period could be adjustable as well.)

I actually just added this feature to my CAM mod (not yet released) as well as the option to disable any easy cures. Doctors will instead relieve syptoms for a period of time, then addictions will return in stage one. Addictions have 2-4 stages based on the type. Stage 1 addiction is just a craving, with minimal negative effects, lasting 1-4 days. Then regular addiction (stage 2) kicks in, generally stage 2 is the longest stage. Stage 3 addiction is shorter then stage 2 but longer then stage 1, with more detrimental effects. Stage 4 is the shortest stage, when your body is suffering the most with the withdrawals doing much more special/skill damage.

 

I have not added, but plan to increase the detriment of stage 4 addictions so that the 1-2 days you are going through the stage, you cannot enter combat w/o risking death. Such effects would be random seizures (random paralysis), shakes (reduced weapon spread), energy drain (-AP), weakness (damage carry weight). Etc, etc. It wouldnt be very difficult to make for vanilla chems only if you want to take my scripts and such when I release it.
