Ads that Auto Play/noisy Ads

I understand that you need to sell advertising to keep the site running, but allowing ads that auto play, loop, unmute themselves makes me want to not use this website. Just sayin...

Also, those advertisers...I would never buy your product, EVER, because now I associate your product with anger, frustration and things that annoy me.

So my suggestion is to set the website to allow ads, but not auto play ones. kthx.

So let me get this straight. You think it's a good idea to pay and promote these annoying tactics being used? I'd never even consider paying a penny to a site or company that annoys me. Who would?

Pop up ads and auto play ads are annoying, invasive and rude. It shouldn't be accepted anywhere. Other sites don't allow auto play ads, I'm suggesting this one not either. If the only thing to entice people to sub up is shutting off the annoying ads then there's no reason to sub, just don't go there. Not trying to be argumentative, but the logic of "pay to make the ads quiet" eludes me when the alternative is to lose traffic.

Also, when Steam gets this thing rolling with Bethesda for mods where do you think people will go to get them? The place with the annoying ad blaring at them or Steam?

The Nexus does not select the adverts that any user actually sees. Those are picked by the adserver used by an outside firm that contracts with the Nexus for placement of their clients' materials. (And it's based on the region of the user's IP address, so different ones play in different parts of the world.)

Neither Dark0ne, nor SiteBot, nor any other member of the Staff here control which ones you get.

But you can, by becoming a Premium Member and not seeing any at all.

I was just going to say something along the lines that Thandal did. Yeah, the ads are often annoying but they are not chosen by Dark0ne... and it's really easy to become a premium member and very worthwhile.

If you think the Steam website will not have ads, many of which are annoying, then you are living in a dream land. Also many of the best modders on this site are very loyal to it and do not plan to go anywhere.

I have to say that I agree with all the sentiments in this thread, both pro- and con- ads. Becomming a premium member does make the ads stop completely, but that is still no excuse for horribly crafted and extremely invasive ads. I've seen far less recently than in the past, and it is most likely to feedback by those who have viewed been subjected to these kind of ads.

It's actually endemic to the internet now. Even very reputable sites which provide download mirrors for anti-virus software can be seen to have fake "download here" buttons, which actually lead to the user installing various kinds of Malware.

And it is for that reason, alone, that I would say that ads which are scripted must be taken into account. Virus writers are getting more and more crafty, and it only takes a small feat of coding to turn an innocuous ad into an ActiveX enabled, SQL injecting, identity-stealing computer killer.

So I would say that although so far you guys have been doing a great job of keeping the site clear of invaders, do be sure you've wrapped those ad banners up tight. It only takes one to ruin the whole deal.

problem is that not everyone can afford to become a premium member. However the ads are not really that big a deal for me and some times are really kewl from a graphic design stand point at least for me most of the ads have a mute buton on them and i very rarely see any of them anyway only on the huge files or adult files do i see a lot of them so as i said not really a big deal for me. So if it came down to only premium members get to use the site or deal with the ads and get to use it i will deal withthe ads to use for free. I thanks the Nexus team for the hard work they put into the site and the service they provide us mod junkies. I salute you.

dude quit complaining its free it could be worse we could have to deal with pop ups and redirects every time we click that would get me to stop coming to this site. deal with it. the prem members can afford to pay for no ads they pay for that as well as faster downloads not for the support of annoying you although now i would pay for the the support too if i could afford it. as for the steam thing i wouldn't use it if you payed me to many restrictions you wont see the adult mods on that i guarantee
