Grifman
Ok, I'm back to Fallout 4 after a long break. I wanted to get all of the DLC before starting a survival run. I know that a whole lot has changed since the game first came out and I'm wondering if some of the steps I once took are no longer required. I've read the mod installation wiki here: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Fallout_4_Mod_Installation Seems pretty straightforward and a lot less complicated than it once was in getting things set up. However, from my prior installation of mods I remember steps that required fiddling with the Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini: In order to make your copy of Fallout 4 mod-friendly, you need to edit two configuration files, Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini. By default, these are located in:C: > Users > [Your Profile] > My Documents > My Games > Fallout 4In Fallout4.ini, repalce the line sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\ (under the [Archive] section), with:sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\In Fallout4Prefs.ini, scroll to the bottom to find the [Launcher] section. Directly beneath the [Launcer] header, enter:bEnableFileSelection=1If this line already exists, make sure that the value is set to 1 and not 0 Are these steps still required? Or are they obsolete now with all of the changes to the game. Thanks in advance for answering. I also looked here: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/videos/87/?page=1&sort=DESC&pid=0&thread_id=3397970&pUp=1 And saw a lot of conflicting advice. So I'm really not clear at what to do :) Again, thanks. Edited September 3, 2016 by Grifman
Puddycat
The way i understand it is.....you are now editing Fallout4Custom.ini. This file will override anything that is put into the other two (Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini.Add any changes just to that file and you're good to go. There were problems with editing the other two because Fallout was sometimes resetting them to their defaults, however it is my understanding that it wont do that with the Fallout4Custom.ini. thesResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\was changed tosResourceDataDirsFinal=after one of the updates i believe and if i remember right it's cause it was causing long load times the old way. thebEnableFileSelection=1i think was only needed when we were adding mods before we 'officially' could. That is all only the conclusion i've come to, and i could be wrong. Feel free to correct me anyone if i am, i do like to understand things fully ha. But in short, yes, follow the new guide ;)
Grifman
Thanks for the info. I'll see if anyone else has any further insight. Lots of changes throughout all these DLC, I was using the older methods months ago, was surprised at the extent of the changes to getting mods set up. Again, thanks. Anyone else? Grifman
Is there still a plugins.txt file? I can't find one. I launched game launcher but no plugin.txt appears anywhere. Confused on this point also. Duh, never mind, found it! Edited September 3, 2016 by Grifman
Puddycat
I've just had a bit of a break and started playing again, and it took me a while to find that too! ha Edited September 3, 2016 by Puddycat
