RDJim
At least a few times every session Skyrim will simply disappear. No freeze just gone back to the desktop without a trace. I restart and I'm back to last save. Is this a recurring problem? I'm running a Gforce GTX580 at ultra settings with excellent frame rates. Sometimes I think it's crashing when I'm galloping into an area with a major vista...but then at times it will crash as soon as I exit a door and am about to appear outside. would love some help with this, my quicksave finger is sore.Thanks. rhophius
what type of pc are you using ? cpu? amount of ram? ive found that a major fix for that CTD is if you are running more than 2gb of ram, im running 6gb of ram and i got the 4gb ram fix and the ctds aren't eliminated but they are less frequent. RDJim
rhophius, I have an i7 2600, GTX580 and 12GB RAM, WIN7-64.When you speak of the 4BG RAM fix are you referring to this Skyrim4GB download? How is it used? I did not download it because it said it was source code. I don't have a compliler and no experience with source code. Also, the description makes it seem dodgy. Can you explain this fix in detail? Thanks.
denixprince
Hello! I also had a lot of game crashes. When I traveling using map, changing zones, killing dragons... and the more I played the game the more often it crashed. Tweaking Skyrim to 4gb RAM or changing sound quality to 44100 Hz didn't helped at all. However, the perfect solution for me, was to simply SET THe TEXTUREs QULAITY FROM HIGH TO MIDDLE OR LOW. You can let all the other settings on max. Since, I had not a single crash after hours of playing! Sure, the textures look a bit uglier than they already were, but it's a necessary sacrifice, I you want to play serenly. Hope it'll help
Itchypantz
I you want to play serenly. LOL! And I you, Brother Denixprince. And I you. I have this issue. I run a similar rig to RDJim. I run Intel i7 2600 @ 3.40 GHz with 8 GB RAM. Windows 7 - 64 bit. My GPU is Nvidia GeForce GTX 560. I have realized when I will see a crash now. It is when I start to see purple things. Trees, inventory, other characters, etc. They turn just purple. No texture, nothing, just purple. That is when I know I need to press QuckSave and sure enough, within seconds, Crash to Desktop. I have been playing with no major heartache over it, but now I have come to the forums. I have seen this 4GB remedy suggested before. I know nothing of it. Playing with textures on medium may do it, and bring serenity, but if I wanted to play this game on medium settings, I would get an XBox.
Matlocktv
I'm having the same issue, but am wondering if it might have to do with the 1.2 patch and a mod conflicting. Are you guys running any mods? I've got a few.
Itchypantz
I run ZERO mods right now.
RDJim
After placing this post I tried the 4GB Skyrim application and have not had a texture problem or crash since. If you're running more that 4GB of ram in your system this seems to be the fix. Apparently it does nothing to your game files - it just lauches Skyrim with settings that allow the game to access all of your memory. You can find 4GB Skyrim on the Nexus download page. It's well reviewed and it works for me.
Itchypantz
Skyrim cannot utilize more than 4GB of RAM? WTF? Was this game written in 2008? So weird. I guess it is a full console port. Code and all. Sux. That is the short route, isn't it Bethesda? I turned down textures and radial blur to Medium. I also have FXAA turned on, as it is an Nvidia technology and easier on the system than regular AA, apparently. I have AA set to 4 and Anisotropic set to 8 (each half of their full capability). These measures kept me in the game for about 2.5 hours last night with no crashes. I will check again today. The thing about that is, I have a PC that can run the s*** out of this program. Why on earth can't I? If I want to run the s*** out of this game on this PC, I need to disable half of my RAM? *facepalm
FOXTELxxJP
I've tried all the s***, you name it- 4 gig loader, bug patches, screwing around with nvidia settings & ini tweaks to no avail but i got it working now that im running sli with 2 590 gtx cards. So yeah it was totally the video memory, have not had a CTD in about 90 hours. PS. I have a lot of mods running hence the overkill with the cards : )
