Alternate KotN questline request

Having taken my character through all Oblivion and the Shivering Isles, I was excited to play the new quest, Knights of the Nine. Of course, I discover that it is geared for goody-goody types -- not for DB Listeners who value their hard-earned infamy.

 

So, there must be some people -- those who prefer Daedra worship, or Sithis -- who would be happy to see the Aedra under assault. Why not create a mod that puts the player on Umaril's side? Or, if not on his side, then at least a quest to defeat Umaril without having the whole Divine Crusader bit. I just wish there was some way to enjoy the plot without becoming a puppet of the Nine Divines.

 

I have some ideas (not all of them compatible with each other!) that I hope others might use as a springboard. So, in that spirit, please put out your own ideas about things that could be included in such a mod!

 

Vague Ideas:

- well, if I recall correctly from The Song of Pelinal, nothing specifically said that Pel's weapons were needed to destroy Umaril, only that they were "from the future time." It's only during KotN that various NPCs claim that only the Relics of the Crusader can protect the wearer from Umaril's blows/ the Crusader's weapons can kill Umaril. So, maybe the lore can be bent a little; maybe the relics make it easier to kill Umaril, but they are not necessary.

- As for getting rid of Umaril in his Spirit form, wouldn't using a Black Soul Gem to trap his soul/Animus work instead of needing Talos' gift to follow Umaril's spirit-form? If this agrees with the lore, then that's one less divine assist an infamous character would need to suffer through.

- okay, admittedly it isn't in one's best interest to help Umaril (Ayleid are nasty folks, it seems). Of course, the plot could have the player work with Umaril, until the cliche Umaril-turns-on-you-and-wants-to-kill-you...
