Nif for 3d Max 2017

Hi everyone,

I wanted to get into model modding for FO4 and got myself 3D Max 2017 through University, however when I try to open nif files as instructed in tutorial "Creating an armor for Fallout 4" the program doesn't even see the nif files in the folder? When I checked out the the plugins they go up to only 2016 and don't work for 2017. Is there a plugin elsewhere I could find? Or is there another way to export models from FO4 to 3d Max or Blender?

Thanks in advance

The official plugin by Bethesda only works for 3ds max 2013 (and maybe 2014 with some tweaks).

The unofficial plugin by Figment only works for 3ds max 2012, 2015 and 2016, unless you download the source code and port it to 2017 yourself (which you won't be able to do without a few years of programming experience with C++ and Visual Studio).

You could import FBX/OBJ files exported by Outfit Studio or NifSkope into 3ds max 2017, but then you can't save it as a NIF properly.

Otherwise you can simply give FBX/OBJ files to Outfit Studio and it will create a NIF out of them for you, which will need a bit of manual tweaking in NifSkope later on for the shader flags and other things.
