marharth
I am pretty sure any discussion of piracy is banned but Ill reply to this anyways. Are game companies losing profit? No they are not. If you never had any intention to buy a game and you pirate it, no one is losing money. Seeing as it is not a physical item or a item that will lose value when taken, the game company will not lose profit. It is true that the company put money into making said game, but that does not mean they are going to lose money from piracy. If you steal cash then the other person no longer has that cash. If you pirate a game the other person has no losses. The only loss in the case of piracy is a possible customer. If a person can afford said game and they have the intention of buying said game, then it is a lost sale. The moral problem and the profit issue in general is when people choose to pirate over buying, not just piracy in general.

It actually boggles my mind that you don't see how fallacious and flawed your thinking is. The company invests today in office space, overhead [lights, payroll, healthcare, equipment, computer technology], professional staff. Time is money, as well, you have to pay those people for the hours invested in developing a story, designing the features of the game, then the time it takes to test, to finally roll the game out, merchandise and distribute it. And that's only off the top of my head as I have a toddler wanting to play hand puppets and don't have time for this nonsense. I'm sorry to come down hard on you but I expect a lot more from you.
