Bandwidthbob
I'd like to make a duplicate of some .nif files, and move them into my own mod. I'm still very new at this, and would appreciate a step-by-step guide on how to do it. I have already spoken with the original mod author, and do have permission to copy the files. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
RaffTheSweetling
I can field this one, mate. Start by checking whether or not the meshes use custom textures, or vanilla textures. If they use vanilla textures, it's very easy. First - go to your meshes folder in Fallout4/Data/ and open that folder. Create a new folder in there and give it a unique name like 'bandwidthbob' Go back to the original mesh file and ctrl+c to make a copy of it and then take it to your 'bandwidthbob' folder and use ctrl+v to drop it in there. You can keep the original name of the .nif, or rename it if you want. In the CK, find an object similar to the one you are making - eg: if it is a static, choose a static, if it is a container, choose a container. With that object chosen, open its editor menu and give it a new name. When asked 'you are renaming .... to ....., do you want to create new form ID etc etc", select yes. Now go to the new object you created and open the editor menu for that. Go through the options list and find the 'model' setting and where it has the .nif file set, you now open this field and get the CK to look for the .nif you have placed in your 'bandwidthbob' folder, and select that. Your object will now have a new .nif directory. If the object uses all vanilla asset textures, then you will notice the materials swap over to those used by the .nif by default. If the .nif uses custom textures, you will need to create folder for textures and materials and configure those as well. Let me know if you need to do that as well. Hope these instructions make sense. :)
Bandwidthbob
Thanks bud, I'll take a look at this tonight when I get in from work. Seems to make sense in my head now, but that might all change when I actually try it :) I'll keep you posted.
