Mod Load Order Review/Advice

Hey guys!

I've decided to pick up Skyrim again, after multiple attempts at setting up a modded playthrough; I don't think I have an obscene number of mods (205 active mods, 145 plugins), but for years I have been unable to maintain a stable modded Skyrim game. I'm hoping that this time I'm on the right track, although I would definitely appreciate some feedback on my current load order for my plugins. I used LOOT as a foundation then started to move some up and down the list according to what I thought made the most sense, but I'm certainly no expert considering I haven't been able to successfully mod a Skyrim game. Ever. But there are some gamers out there running 700 mods+ smoothly so hopefully today can be my lucky day! Thanks so much in advance!

Some problems on load order:

Skyrim.esm=1
Update.esm=1
Dawnguard.esm=1
HearthFires.esm=1
Dragonborn.esm=1

Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.esp

Other esm

Outdated use amidianborn content addon instead:

AMB Glass Variants Lore.esp

Differently Ebony.esp

aMidianborn_Skyforge_Weapons.esp

Organize your load order:

#01: Your ESM Files;
#02: Bug-Fix type Mods;
#03: Game Structure and/or UI Mods:
#04: Character Appearance Mods (For NPCs and Self);
#05: Mods that Add and/or Change Locations; even some NPC mods change locations ELFX changes locations as well.
#06: Mods that Add and/or Change Items;
#07: Mods that Add NPCs;
#08: Texture Mods;
#09: Environmental Mods (things like Climates of Tamriel, Sounds of Skyrim, ELFX-Weathers etc.);
#10: Mods with Gameplay Changes; Then,
#11: Reproccers, AV, and Bashed Patches.

Thank you so much for your feedback, I appreciate you taking the time! I will test out this set up and see if it brings me more stability. Quick question, by "Outdated use amidianborn content addon instead" do you mean I should install a mod that is called amidianborn content addon"?

Allow me to offer you the same advise that I've offered others regarding Load Order vs LOOT.

1) Start by sorting your mod list with LOOT

2) Do not trust LOOT

3) Go to the mod authors page and double check EVERYTHING yourself by hand

4) Step 3 is a pain in the royal ass

5) Without step 3 you wont know if LOOT caught everything, and IT DOES NOT

6) Use word or notepad and create your own masterlist as you are double checking your mods

7) Save your master list for future reference to compare against future LOOT sorting

8 ) I have done all of the above (and am still going through my list of nearly 200 mods)

9) There are some things LOOT simply will not catch, a good example of this is when using The People of Skyrim (TPoS) and Expanded Towns and Cities (ETaC). These are mods that LOOT will put in all sorts of crazy places, so much so that even the mod authors speak about how inaccurate LOOT is with these mods.

Trust me. Bite the bullet and try it my way. It is tedious, time comsuming and a royal pain...but will also guarantee you a much more stable game.

NOTE / Disclaimer: This advice should not be taken as me "hating" on LOOT. It is a great tool for what it is, however there are nearly 50,000 mods on the Nexus for Skyrim alone and LOOT cant be expected to know them all.

#2 - The suggested mod priority list posted by Project579 is really good stuff. Highly recommend that you not only follow that advise but take a hard look at the article it references.
