I was really jazzed about Skyrim, even after playing it the 1st oh...hundred hours. Couldn't wait for the CK to arrive. Then the auto-updates started to arrive...even though I said NOT to patch this game. The ONLY way to keep Steam from auto-patching it was to never go online. Way to go Steam.

Confidence in Steam -1

Patches that fix problems is not a bad thing...however patches that cause problems is quite irritating and there have been 3 highly unsatisfactory patches delivered.

Confidence in Bethesda -3

Steamworks now managing Skyrim mods? I cannot help but feel even worse about this.

My modding excitement for Skyrim has now sank to an all-time low.

If only I could get Skyrim 1.0 back.

Confidence -10

This is why I don't understand this argement,

"Prefer to use existing modding sites? Not a problem. You’ll still be able to upload/share/access Skyrim mods on fan-created mod sites."

1. There is now a legitimate chance for modders to make some kind of profit for their work. This is good in multiple ways. No one is going to be forced to pay and if they do it is because the modders deserved it. And to complain about the money issue is moot.. most mods would not even exist if the chance for some $$ wasn't first possible.

2. Steamworks works fine and is pretty unproven at this point, anyone complaining about it seems to not be able to come up with a single problem with it. Other then the fact that it takes away from some other sites views and the money issue.. when in reality 90% of the mods will be free, the ones that are worth the money might cost $5.

3. Steamworks has an audience 10 times larger then any other sites.

4. Getting mods and installing them was always a hassle in every Bethesda game. Regardless, if you enjoy that hassle you can still manually install your mods and play them offline, like they clearly said.

4.5. You can still download mods on other sites, like nexus for example.

5. Patches fix issues and cause issues since the dawn of gaming, not sure why Bethesda is being considered the main culprit for this?

It's pretty damn easy to have Skyrim 1.0 on your computer at the same time as the Steam version.. I have both and I don't know if you forgot the issues it had on day one but there were a ton more then Skyrim currently has. Mouse is unstable, tons of graphical glitches, most the mods don't want to work, a lot of interface features don't work.. I have both full patched and Skyrim vanilla and patched is far superior in every way, Half my mods don't work on original skyrim, they all do on steam skyrim. so where this patching argument comes from is beyond me. Sure, you have to upgrade your mods, but get over it.. that's the price of modding.

Unless your excitement for Skyrim modding was 1000 and now it is 990.. I seriously don't get what you're trying to complain about.

Overall, I think a ton of people are blowing this way out of context.

Steam workshop of hell NO! sigh... meh... vomit...

So now MODs will directly contribute if they choose to Steam which makes huge profit. Hmmm. I wonder if at least they will offer MODders the ability to collect money from steam for their work since I am sure Steam Workshop will be stock full of ads. Why the hell did they not use the already existing Nexus which has been going strong and proven for years now. I for one do not want Steam to have anything to do with my MODs. I mean steam certified MODs yanno. Ones that are certified and accepted.

Hope everybody just sticks with Nexus!

Nexus allows adult mods.

Bethesda bans for discussing them on the official forums AND has a big sticky.

I can guarantee Steam Workshop won't allow adult mods.

Hmmmmmm ...

Would you rather Nexus gets rid of all adult content and bans anyone who uploads / discusses a mod that contains it? (Better Bodies for Morrowind included)

I'm all for allowing modders to get some cash for their mods.

I'm just leery about buy a mod I haven't play tested, because as any experienced modder knows, descriptions aren't always the whole story of mods, i.e. conflicts, items don't work, ect.

Secondly, pay to play mods will decrease the amount of information freedom among modders, thus detracting from the community as a whole.

I wish we could have the option to donate to the modders, although few really support in that manner. Most are happy to take something for nothing.

Pay to play? Where did you get that? My take on it is that it's nothing more than Steam trying to take the place of Nexus as a storage house for mods. That will never happen, guaranteed. Any serious modder will still be uploading their mods manually to the Nexus site. And as has been mentioned, Nexus allows adult mods. Lastly, since you can keep Steam in offline mode, I'm sure the same will apply to this Steam Workshop thing.

Really the best thing to do at this point, though hardly anyone probably will, is to not play Skyrim until the Spring of 2012. By then almost all bugs will be fixed, either by the devs or modders, and there will be tons of great mods available to make the game super-freaking-awesome and just the way you want it.
