High-res texture for Windhelm

I have been searching tirelessly for that texture, if I could find the damn thing I could try fixing it. Anyone know which texture it is?

Is it the rubble that the OP doesn't like or the ground? I think the rubble is whdirtbrick.dds, not 100% certain. If its the ground then it will be in landscape/roads, but if I remember what other people were saying the roads use multiple textures so its probably a combination of cobblestone, grit and snow textures.

I found the textures.

whroughground.dds

whroughground_n.dds

whroughgroundwet.dds

whroughgroundwet_n.dds

whroughgroundmud.dds

The whroughgroundmud.dds is the file that has the reflective water/mud in it. However, I have tried changing the texture and making new normal maps and yet the horrible pixelation that can be seen in the reflection of the mud is still there. So the problem must be in the alpha layer, still testing.

Ok, so after much testing and fiddling I have fixed the horrible blocky reflections, I am still modifying it however. Just thought I'd post an update with pictures to show what I have done.

This version I have kept the concept of mud rather than water, so it is lumpy. I will try and make a smoother version to simulate spilt water - but personally I like this version better.

Furthermore, I must add that at the moment these files are massive - 4096 x 4096 10 - 20mb's per file (thats compressed with mipmaps) I didn't notice any performance or loading time difference at all on my machine. I will try scaling these versions down, its easier to work with larger files.

Smoother Version: Unfortunately making it smoother allows the reflection to be shown better, and the reflection is now causing some pixelation (its no where near as bad as the original, but it much more noticeable than the lumpier muddy version that I add pictures of above).

I don't think its strictly fair to say that no texture artists read this forum. As a texture artist myself I can tell you that most of us are busy with large scale projects that do far more than fix one iffy texture. I would ask you to be patient in time vanilla textures will be a thing of the past you just to give us all chance to get stuff done.

If my skills extended to doing terrain I'd fix it for you right now but they don't. For the moment I suggest you just don't look at it. ;)

Nah I didn't mean it like that, I just assumed that they were busy with, as you said, bigger projects and not have the time to read small requests. No offense intended.

@RoboRabbit Those textures look much, much better! Can't wait to see the finalized version. Thanks for posting the updates here, it's interesting to see the development.

Good to see someone is trying to do something about those ugly Windhelm textures. It`s the city with the ugliest textures imo.

Does anyone know if there are mods for the other Windhelm textures (walls and such)? I cant find the one by NebuLa mentioned on the first page.
