tontonzanmi Posted September 8, 2016 Share Posted September 8, 2016 A suggestion about the not too common but still annoying bug with cars. The bug that make you randomly die from walking on or next to an "undestroyed" car and caused, for what I believe, by some engine physic glitches. Looks like the insta-death bug comes from vehicle misplaced on loading that does a little "shaking", since vehicles are moveable statics objects, at the smallest graze, sending a lethal gltched physic impact at whatever touch them. There are also case of misteriously exploding vehicles, probably after taking damage from the same glitch. So my though was that the bug could be entirely removed from the game by making all cars and truck in game into non-movable static objects. Another fix could be to remove any damages that these specific objects (cars and trucks) can do trough physic/havok or whatever it's called. For the first solution, it would make vehicles completely unmovable unless they're made to explode (and so swapped to the destroyed model), but I think of it as a rather good trade-off for getting ride of the aforementionned bug. They're supposed to weight tons after all... nobody can move a trash-can, a small mail-box or a chair (outside of workshop), but a molerat can send a car flying... also bus are unmovable/static objects so why arent car and trucks ? Might need a rather massive edit to the game to replace all vehicles by static counterpart though... For the second solution, I digged a little but couldnt find an appropriate game setting that handle this specific rule about damage done by colision with cars and trucks. Would probably be the easiest and simplest way to get ride of the problem if there is such a game setting...also could be adressed by a simple console command. Is there modders knowledgeable enough on those subjects and willingfull to fix this bug trough a mod ? Or even better, is there already a mod/console command adressing to this bug ? damanding Posted September 8, 2016 Share Posted September 8, 2016 The exploding cars is not a bug, it's by design. In fact it's been a feature of more than one Fallout game. The lore behind it is that they have unstable nuclear engines that can be easily set off by a grenade, gunshots, missile etc going off near them. Also Bethesda just LOVES hiding frag mines under cars. So if it wasn't something like shots setting it off, it might have had a frag mine under it that you set off by getting too close. Maybe it's got something to do with the physics engine going wonky above 60Fps. Since I know about it I just use Vsync to lock it at 60. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
tontonzanmi Posted September 9, 2016 Author Share Posted September 9, 2016 I'm not talking about the explosion....English aint my native language so I guess must be difficult to understand....read again The bug is, for what I ve found searching here and there on youtube and some forums (mainly the steam one), not too common but still existing and annoying. Myself I had it only once for now. It is indeed a glitch caused by the engine physics, the same that was giving damage when walking on bones and clutters, or bumping into a cart in skyrim. That bug havent been fixed since skyrim but the main difference here is that when in skyrim it was just giving a few HP worth of damage (you had to REALLY mean it to get enough damage to notice/die in skyrim, insisting or making the clutter glitch in a way it would make it get launched at high speed into your character). On the other hand in Fallout 4, when it comes to cars, just grazing or walking on a car is enough to make you die no matter what, or make said vehicle be launched with very high force. And if for some reasons (mainly being in a restrained space) the vehicle cant move from where it is, it just take damage continuously until it explode (it happen often with the truck in the hangar at wicked shipping).Sometimes it's not even necessary to touch the car, just when the game engine swap models between LOD to close detailled is enough to lead the car to get launched, fall from highways or move around, killing whatever is close enough to get touched by them. And yes, I ve also read that the engine physic glitch problem was caused/made worse by the refresh rate. Was also the case in skyrim. For example, it was making clutters fly around whenever loading/getting in a new cell (especially housing interior cells from hearthfire). Some kind of issue caused by FPS /V-synch setting. Anyway the game with random insta-death when one is around cars is really annoying and would need some fix. It's the same as having a random crash/freeze if you think about it... Strangely enough, while searching for a fix, I've learnt that for some reason destroyed cars and trucks no longer suffer this glitch. So for now my only fix is to explode any vehicle I come across. SO... the problem isnt about the vehicle exploding, this aint a bug and I know perfectly well it's a wanted feature in the game since fallout 3 (I guess, didnt play the preceding games). The problem is about a placement bug that occur when models are loaded by the engine and that make cars move unoticeably when something touch them and if a character is close enough when this happen the car bump it wih enough force to insta-kill it.The bug is caused first by the fact that cars are movable statics, the reason why I m talking about turning them all into normal statics, but also by the glitchy engine physic and the huge amount of damage colision with cars gives (didnt see it happen often, but I think it's a wanted mecanics that deathclaws throw cars at their ennemies when possible, dealing deadly damage with this attack).It hapened to me only once for now: when jumping over a car my char just died for no apparent reason like if I had made a lethal fall from very high up (though It was wearing a pair of acrobatic legging...). Also had case where dogmeat/codsworth went into bleeding after passing by a car for no reason. So no... durable vehicle aint the solution to this problem at all... exploding vehicle aint the problem at all either (it's rather the solution for now).
