gofortheko
Not sure why they didnt allow you to change your height, since you can change your musculature. I was curious if anyone can make a mod that allows you to be taller (as a man) then nord women.
elvinkun
You can change yor height in console via player.setscale x.x (default 1.0), but unlike Oblivion, the camera doesn't scale with you, so if you add or take a bit more, the character will either take too much of the screen in 3rd person or won't be seen apart from the head so I think you shouldn't go further than 0.97 - 1.03 if you want to avoid problems. mindinavoid
Copy-pasting this from another thread where someone was asking about how to shrink their character to child-size, as it's a 1:1 relevance matter for this thread. --- I actually used the setscale command for my Argonian battlemage in a similar way, as he's meant to be abnormally small- a runt, in other words (who has a larger-than-life personality to make up for it). Unlike in Oblivion, where the 1st person and 3rd person views were disconnected from one-another (and caused all manner of shenanigans) your size is concurrent between PoVs in Skyrim, so you don't have to do any special screwing around. To make things easier from a camera placement perspective (as changing character size doesn't seem to affect the camera placement at all), here's the default values in Skyrim.ini (from your My Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder).---[Camera]fActorFadeOutLimit=30fOverShoulderCombatAddY=-100.0000fOverShoulderCombatPosZ=20.0000fOverShoulderCombatPosX=0.0000fOverShoulderPosZ=-10.0000fOverShoulderPosX=30.0000fOverShoulderHorseAddY=-300.0000fOverShoulderHorsePosZ=0.0000fOverShoulderHorsePosX=0.0000fMouseWheelZoomIncrement=0.0750---Modifying [fOverShoulderPosZ] will change the height of the camera, and PosX will change how far left or right. I believe AddY (in fOverShoulderCombatAddY) affects how the camera tilts forward when you enter combat stance. According to the resource I got from the SOS / Seamless Over Shoulder mod, you're supposed to be able to use the following to adjust these ingame:---setini "fActorFadeOutLimit" xxsetini "fOverShoulderCombatAddY" xxsetini "fOverShoulderCombatPosZ" xxsetini "fOverShoulderCombatPosX" xxsetini "fOverShoulderPosZ" xxsetini "fOverShoulderPosX" xxsetini "fOverShoulderHorseAddY" xxsetini "fOverShoulderHorsePosZ" xxsetini "fOverShoulderHorsePosX" xxsetini "fMouseWheelZoomIncrement" xx---And then "saveini" to keep the changes you like. I couldn't get it to work when I tried, but in hindsight, I think I was doing it wrong (including the =NUM bit with the quoted parameter). Leave the quotations in when you do it, by the way-- that tells the system to read the entire enclosed section and search for that specific string in the .ini file. For the record, the animations were made with standard bodysizes (.95 ~ 1.25, I believe) in mind, so you'll put your hands through the enchantment and alchemy tables, or stick your wooden spoon down through the pot while cooking. Other than that though, it's all good. Edit: For the record, this also means that if you wanted you could set your view off to the left instead of off to the right, by using negative values. I intend to make a simple ScriptDragon camera switcher script as soon as I can figure out the details that'll add or remove a negative (-) sign to whatever your existing fOverShoulderPosX is. ---My assumption above for .95 ~ 1.25 is based on rough memory of the heights in Oblivion, so don't take that for absolute law. I'm probably quite wrong. At .85 my Argonian spends much of his time turning around and bonking his snout on Lydia's chestplate when she sneaks up on him, so I'm not the best judge of height matters. elvinkun
No, it's not max, it's what I say you shouldn't go above or under if you plan on playing in 3rd person. Since the camera is static and doesn't change with your heigh as in the other TES games, it might make you look weird. Also screw up your aiming. Also as the poster above says, but in my humble opinion, if you go as far as 1.25 you will not be be able to play in 3rd person much. Even 1.10 seemed to do really weird things with what parts of character you see and aiming for me. Also repositioning camera can permanently screw up the crosshair. Not arguing, just saiyng. mindinavoid
Also repositioning camera can permanently screw up the crosshair.I can vouch for this. In third person view with my .85 scaled Argonian, I have to aim under whatever I'm firing at at general range; your character's height has a definitive effect on the trajectory of a projectile, be it spell or arrow. It's one of the few things I hate about the new way the staves work, as I've attempted to resurrect a corpse mid-fight with a Staff of Zombies and fired at the ground on the exact opposite side of the body because the emission point of the staff was directly over the corpse (and that was before I tooled about with the scale settings, too). Be prepared to modify the way you fight if you move the camera around. Melee fighting I've had no trouble with so far (when I was using the Seamless Over Shoulder settings) but I jump to 1st person if I'm trying to do anything remotely delicate, like pick up a coin purse between a bowl and a flagon sitting on a shelf. elvinkun
Well, that's why I said .97-1.03 or even .95-1.05 ... Sure, it's not really that much of a difference, but it's safe to say you won't have to deal with the crosshair being on the wrong place, or at least nothing noticable. Technically it would be enough to tweak the Y axis after you do all the repositioning since (thank the maker) you are in the middle during fights, so you don't have to deal with X axis. But to be honest, I haven't even looked into that, but it will be somewhere in the interface package ... But I do not dare to touch that yet, since I have to manualy tweak my mouse to be able to look around at all. But honestly, one can get used to anything, question is if you desire the different heigh enough to do the sacrifice :D ... I know I did in Beth's Fallouts and Oblivion. gofortheko
I think Ill just stick with 1.03. Thanks for the information everyone.
SaturnFX
There was a mod in oblivion that made a bunch of random heights if I remember correctly (or was it fallout 3)..but anyhow, it just varied the heights of everyone in world by a bit..some tall, some small, but nothing over the top. Would be nice to have that option again, but I reckon the CK will be required for such dramatic changes worldwide. I want to take the elves from their 8 foot status down to perhaps 5'
elvinkun
Well, I'm sure there will be a mod for both safely modifying your heigh as well as randomizing NPCs... But considering Bethesda wend "No CK ths year, yay!" on us, good question is when.
