mymee
I'm trying to mod the game now and I'm just beginning to learn how to use DAO Modmanager to get mods. But I also remember there might have been a few bugs that the official updates to the game didn't fix. So is there some unofficial community patch that addresses these bugs? Thanks! Thandal
I'm trying to mod the game now and I'm just beginning to learn how to use DAO Modmanager to get mods. But I also remember there might have been a few bugs that the official updates to the game didn't fix. So is there some unofficial community patch that addresses these bugs? Thanks!Well... No. (or)Yes. Lots. You might want to take a look at this thread: Good DA Mods - Opinions. Several different perspectives can be found there. The lists are a little dated now, but not much for what you're asking. (The only essential one I can think of to add is TerraEx's Awakening Silverite Mine Bug Fix.) And then read this article: Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies. And one more resource is: ** The Origins/Awakening COMMUNITY FIXIT PROJECT **, over on the BSN. After that, feel free to come back here and ask more questions.
mymee
Thank you Thandal, here's my 1st round of questions. 1) Is there an optimal order in installing modifications? -For example Dragon Age Redesigned requires Dracomie's Textures, which is a bunch of .mor override files. JB3 Textures are also a bunch of override files, but are .dds files. Will they interfere with one another? Also the JB3 instructions say simply place the folder into Core/override, but I notice all the DAR .mor files are all unfoldered. Does creating subfolders within Core/override interefere with anything?NVM GOT THAT FIXED 2) I was under the impression that "overrides" don't need to be installed. So all I have to do is drop the files like .mor, .dds, .mhop, or whatever into the Core/override folder and they'll magically activate? I don't need some .dazip extension to activate them? Also most mods don't even provide a .dazip, like DAR and JB3 for example. 3) On the last link you gave which is a community bugfix list, am I to download every fix provided individually? I was hoping there would be a compilation of sorts. That thread is long... Edited December 3, 2011 by mymee
Thandal
Thank you Thandal, here's my 1st round of questions. 1) Is there an optimal order in installing modifications? No, DA doesn't work that way. It searches various folders for the specific resources (files) it needs "on the fly" when they're called for. It searches in the folder named: "\[user's documents]\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override" first. If it locates a match there, it stops looking and uses what it found. So there isn't a "load order". There's only "folder and file naming in alphanumeric order" that dictates what'll be used. 2) I was under the impression that "overrides" don't need to be installed. So all I have to do is drop the files like .mor, .dds, .mhop, or whatever into the Core/override folder and they'll magically activate? I don't need some .dazip extension to activate them? Also most mods don't even provide a .dazip, like DAR and JB3 for example. This question tells me you didn't look at the article: Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies. The answer depends on the particular type of mod. READ the article. 3) On the last link you gave which is a community bugfix list, am I to download every fix provided individually? I was hoping there would be a compilation of sorts. That thread is long...a) We (the Nexus) do not ALLOW "compilations". b) One has to select which particular fixes one wants to use.c) The link I provided was to a discussion between several members of their recommendations. Some of those mods are incompatible with each other. You weren't supposed to try to get or use them all. (But if you're asking for my list, it's the third post in that thread.) In my opinion, the closest things to what you're asking for are: -- Qwinn's Unofficial Fixpack ("Qwinn's") Hasn't been updated since the 1.02 patch. -- Morrigan Restoration Fixpack ("MRP") Deals almost exclusively with issues regarding her PQ and relationship with the Warden. -- DA Core Rules Fixpack. "Corrects" some things the author thought were broken and provides some flexibility in which elements are applied. Read the Readme for details. But plenty of people would feel strongly that others are better, or don't like what these do. Take your pick!
