It really helped immersion as I would just sit down and watch my character enjoy whatever I had packed around a campfire. If you were one of those people that eats all their food during combat, i've seen mods in the older Bethesda games only initiate the animations while you're sitting down or not in combat. Or at least you could cancel the animation by drawing your weapon. Might not even be that hard considering the animations are already in the game eh?
