Can't select anything in console

When I press the tilde key to bring up the console, it comes up like it should. I can type console commands in, and they'll work just fine.

 

But commands that require a reference don't work. Not because the commands themselves don't register, but because nothing happens when I click anywhere inside the game window!

 

Normally, there's a series of letters and numbers that appear in the center of the screen. This is the reference number of the object I just clicked.

 

But it's not showing up!

 

What the hell is happening here?

You can try this, but so far it only seems to work with some items. Some that I REALLY want to AMOD just won't work:

 

Drop item, float cursor over item, hold E to grab item & hold it up, then press the ~ Console Key & type or paste:

getplayergrabbedref

This will list the Ref ID yet for many items it very frustratingly doesn't Fu==ing Help!
