Peanutmonk
As a trained shooter and one who repairs firearms it's appalling how many of the Fallout 4 animations ride the bolt when loading or reloading a weapon. For those that don't know, Riding the bolt is when you pull the bolt/charging handle back and then push it forward For most firearms this is the wrong thing to do as it will not properly seat the round This will usually cause the weapon to not fire due to the hammer pushing the cartridge into battery but no longer having sufficient force to set off the primer The exception to this is weapons that fire from the open bolt These weapons usually have their charging handles disconnected from the boltthis means that the firing pin is fixed within the bolt and the force of the bolt moving forward (usually provided by the recoil spring) fires the roundWeapons that fire from the open bolt do not have a hammer/striker and are usually blowback-operatedMost weapons that fire from the open bolt are fully automatic only firing form an open bolt is a disadvantage for semi-auto weapons due to the delay between trigger pull and cartridge ignition. Some examples of weapons that fire from the open bolt are:UziMAC-10M249 or FN MinimiM240 or FN MAG
