Pushkatu
There's to much drinking in this game. So... a couple DB members got drunk after a successful job...everyone knows drunk people tell the truth, there's no training to stop a drunk person to brag about his/her actions. Same goes with the other guilds. Word spreads out and before you know it, everyone knows what everyone else is up to. I'll drink to that! Edited December 4, 2011 by Pushkatu
abaris
I wonder how difficult it would be to simulate what wearing the Gray Fox's cowl did in Oblivion within Skyrim. Well, they are. In a way. But its not like in Fallout 3 where everyone knew about your fame or infamy. I don't know why Beth didn't implement any of this. The Karma system was a wonderful idea. Its one of these things sorely missed in Skyrim.
Handofbane
It needs to be about recognition. Say I Just waltz in wearing my usual street clothes, face clearly visible and knock someone off. If I get seen in my get away then sure, I get arrested next time I enter town. However if I'm dressed up in my DB kit, or my Darth Vader Nightingale suit, no one can see my face! How can they possibly know it was me next time I walk into town in normal clothes? Also if I do walk in wearing the DB or Nightingale suit, I should get at least arrested or questioned. And if I get caught committing a crime while wearing one of those suits then later people can say "Ohhh, that's that assassin!" or "Watch him/her, filthy sneaking thief." It's probably one of the poorest RP segments of the game that would be nice to have addressed.Modding such a thing in shouldn't be too far out of reach, the scripts necessary would likely be similar to the scripts attached to Faction Armor in New Vegas, just shifting it from "X will be neutral, Y will be Kill-on-sight" to say "X group will be use dialogue (friendly), Y group will use dialogue (semi-hostile), guards will attempt to arrest on sight". The harder part would probably be lining up existing voice acting to each NPC group and armor-script, especially if any new lines would be needed. It seems they're taking the recognition rather from stats or faction than outfit. The few comments I get from guards and the likes refer to sneaking or the Brotherhood whilst I'm not wearing any of their armor.

More specifically regarding wearing Steel or Orcish armors, and a very funny comment when I was carrying Volendrung around - "What were you planning to do with a hammer like that, knock down a house?" So the base is there to work off of at least.

Handofbane
Ahh, yes I see what you mean. Finding the actual faction recognition connections shouldn't be too complicated, though, once we get the CK - just pull up a guard, poke through their voice lines and read the attached trigger "If player faction X is 1, then NPC can say this" (not how it will actually read, but you get the idea). That said, from an immersion aspect, those lines could be disabled or just taken as people suspect you are associated with a certain faction, then attach the more aggressive script (for hostility or whatever) to the NPC recognizing the player wearing a certain armor outfit - or at least just the main body piece, as it would confirm to everyone who sees it that you really are a DB or Thieves' Guild member. xaliqen
Well, I don't know if many people feel the same way, but I don't feel anything I've done in the whole game made much difference. I finished the main quest, most of the guild quests and the major faction quest, but few, if any, of my decisions seem to have done much at all. I think its a pity they didn't take the fallout system for a dynamic changing world. But that's water under the bridge. Question is, if it can be redeemed in some way.
