MonsterMonkey
that's the illusion of beth's games (that i love that's not the subject) but like Oblivion FO3 and even NV (where you have the choice to make any faction win but none are really good or evil) that's it you have such karma stuffs but it doesn't matter at all because the storyline follow its own path and at the end there are just minor differencies between one ending or another. Maybe one day they will make a game where you can really choose to make evil if that pleases you like if in Skyrim you ll'have finally became the worst ennemy of liberty and became Alduin's faction lieutenant or either became a gread dark mage that take controle on alduin many options should be in a dark path. RomeoJGuy
Well already they offer a truly "evil" path if you join the dark brotherhood.... but it seems to me they completely butchered the dark brotherhood as it was already very lame questline.... nothing like the oblivion questline, but people either always know you are in it, or they don't know even when you prance down, down to a skyrim town wearing your evil armor types. Not to mention if they all know you are in the dark brotherhood already it doesn't matter if you are wearing normal clothes they still recognize you.... But even when you finish the main quest not much changes in respect to how your character is treated.... it is like business as usual.

darthsloth74
sure there is change! as you walk by a guard"psst,... hey you,... hail sithis! haha" ....wait,...that was it... :wallbash: EDIT: Bethesda doesnt like to punish its players... which is odd, cause a Daedric prince doesn't behave as he/she should in oblivion or Skyrim. And that stands out even more than the lack of reaction from being in the dark brotherhood. You forgot to mention those guards say that in an Arnie accent which adds to the novelty. As regarding not wanting to punish their players I sort of disagree since they have the Psychic rent a cop guards in Oblivion which everyone hated, particularly those of us with shady activities. Skyrim has the bounty hunters and the DB assassins. Bounty hunters for law breakers, DB for people who are far too nice. Really its just a thow back to Fallout 3 with Talon Co. and Regulators hunting you down due to your Karma meter. Yet another reminder of how good or bad we are being as players.Just because there isn't a visible one in Skyrim doesn't mean its not there, it would explain a lot. Personally I don't quite understand the crime of slaying a chicken and getting a 5 gold piece bounty its rather messed up. As I said in a topic I started Bethesda don't want to follow through on letting people be really evil, just semi-evil and when you are held accountable for your actions its only to go to jail or pay a fine. I think if you play an evil Necromancer who could dig up bodies from the local graveyard and then you got found out you should have the pitchfork armed mob at your door trying to murder you, burn you at the stake etc like the Dracula and Frankenstein movies. So yes the conqequences of your evil actions as a player should be far more severe and have more influence on NPC's who have hear rumours of your dark reputation. Yeah, they had the perfect blueprint but left it at these few unexplained instances. Question is if it can be modded. And that probably can't be answered until they publish the kit. elvinkun
Personally I don't quite understand the crime of slaying a chicken and getting a 5 gold piece bounty its rather messed up. I walked into a house, killed two people inside and while I was standing there with the bloodied dagger, guard ran in and charged me two septims for trespassing. Beat that. But the part that bugs me the most is the "Hail Sithis!" guards and those who comment on your kills. That's just awkward. Well, the guards are pretty bad alltogether, like after the main quest, I walk in Solitude...Guard: "All hail the Dragonborn!"Me: "Finally! Someone finally recognize..."Guards: "You smell like a wet dog." *walks away*Me: ... *cry* Edited December 4, 2011 by elvinkun

Miraboreasu
1: The dark brotherhood is not INHERENTLY evil in the elder scrolls world. It's just full of twisted, evil people. They do fill a niche at times, with much needed political assassinations, or the killing of bandit chiefs. That's a highly philosophical debate, however. Regardless, in a culture that thrives in violence, Skyrim, like Black Marsh, is one of the few places in the world I would imagine the common people to have less connotations of "evil" pointed at them, when they, themselves are a violent warrior people. 2: The guards are people with their own lives beyond their job, Some guards supporting you for your job in the DB could be a result of you killing someone (heck, even the Emperor) who they, personally, wanted dead.
