my mods just don't work

ok im kinda new to the mod thing but i downloaded a couple like alexandra wings and pegasus and i dont know why but they dont work. when i press data files in the start up thing i see them there and i check them off but they still don't work when i play the game. for alexandra wings i went to the statue near slash'n smash and there was nothing there. for the pegasus one i was supposed to get a map marker indicating where pegasus would be but i didn't get any marker. can someone help me out?

Do check the thread on how to download mods, it probably answers your question. The usual problem with downloading mods is that the files don't end up in the right place. Just because the Data File is there unfortunately does not mean all the others are where they are supposed to be.

 

Download again to a holding file of some kind (if you didn't do that to start with). Then check out what subfiles the mod has (these vary - textures, meshes, icons, sounds, music etc.)

 

You then need to look at the path for each of the subfiles to which the mod has added something. The path should be taking textures as an example:- Bethesda Softworks - Oblivion - Data Files - Textures - then individual textures or files with different names containing a particular mod's textures (often these are initials). What you will probably find is that you have a path that shows an incorrect link. Examples could be BS-Oblivion-Data Files-Data Files or BS-Oblivion-DataFiles-Textures-Data Files (this one is particularly likely).

 

You have to open the errant file and manually move the contents to the right place. In the previous example you will open the second Data Files and then the Textures file within it, select all contents and copy across to the correct textures folder. You need to double check that you have not now got the path BS-Ob-Data Files-Textures-Textures which will still not work. It is likely to happen if you try to copy the textures file across as opposed to copying the contents of the file.
