gretzky99
I climb down the hill to the valley Whiterun is located in. I just don't understand, because I have taken all mods off. Anyone have any ideas why?
Itchypantz
Do you see purple things? Like trees, inventory items, NPCs, armour...?
gretzky99
No, no purple things. I tested it again, this time walking from Riverwood and more west of the path to Whiterun, so I was nowhere near the guards on the road. Once I got down closer to the farms/taverns, it CTD. So perhaps there is something wrong with getting closer to WhIterun? Edited December 5, 2011 by gretzky99

FOXTELxxJP
No need, anyways ive always had crashes around that area and when fast traveling to whiterun because it's got a lot more textures to load for some reason??!! My old gpu(450 gts), which oddly enough was good enough to run crysis 2 and the witcher 2 on ultra but NOT THIS GAME. Seems that skyrim uses up a s*** load more vram than the developers let on (A!!holes) especially when running mods, so got my new cards 2 590 gtx sli now. Not a CTD in over 90 hours, PS my cards are bit over kill but vram over 2 gig should do, for instance 2 560 ti sli. hope that helps. P.S.S this is purely my experience some people will tell you otherwise. so trial and error your way through etc. ask a lot of people and what not. yuikhee
I had crashes around Whiterun as well, but after I got the 4GB mod it didn't crash. Didn't really test the exact spot yet, but it seems to crash generally less with this mod (Actually hasn't crashed since). Only thing I noticed is that the mod makes the loading time longer and after it loads it is slow for about 10-30 seconds. Just wait and it starts to run smooth again. Don't really know what the mod does, but it works. Here is the link: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013

Here is the link: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013 Only thing at the moment is that it seems the 4GB loader hasn't been updated for the latest version of the game, according to some. I don't know what to think really, since I had it running twice earlier on, and now.. the game won't with it. Flipping a coin and hoping for the best with the crashes seems to work the best, though. @OP: If it's any consolation, I know the EXACT area you're referring to. On the North-East side of Whiterun's (The town) outskirts near all the farmland and junk. I've never been able to walk around there, and when I do, I facepalm once it crashes, cuss a little, and load-up again.
gretzky99
If it hasn't been updated yet, I will just wait on DLing it.
