dubtech
So I have been playing around with the FOV. I have set it to 90 which i really like but noticed that even with the default of 70 skyrim does this fishbowl or stretchy effect near the edges of the screen that grows from the center of the screen and outward in a circle. It's there all the time but its really noticeable while talking to NPCs. For example if you stare at an NPCs face and slowly turn left or right that persons face will start to stretch and get fatter the closer it gets to the edge of the screen. It gets even more noticeable the higher the FOV is set. Does anyone know how to turn that effect off and make it so adjusting the FOV just does the FOV and not the stretchy effect or is it one and the same? Cornpipe
Try this little experiment. Hold both arms straight out to your side. Now without turning your head focus on your finger tips. Cant do it? Imagine being able to focus on your fingertips of both hands at the same time without turning your head. This is effectively what setting the FOV to 90 does. So of course there is going to be some distortion. The 'camera' is in a fixed point and it's supposed to simulate actual vision, not looking at a movie screen. Even 70 is a bit more than humans can focus on (our brain "fills in the blanks" with our peripheral vision so we perceive more than we can actually focus on). Try something fun. Crank that sumbitch up to 120! It's like downing three bottles of skooma after smoking a bowl of nirnroot laced with powdered mammoth tusk. Good times! (His Skooma line) I play at an FOV of 115 (Which gives a normal movie type 3ps feel) and I've never been more satisfied. Other then that, he's right. The default is meant for an up close and personal feel.Go to the SkyrimPrefs.ini file and change the FOV to 115. Mind you it kinda depends on your res. I'm on my lappy so my res is 1366x768 so 115 is perfect. try it see if it works if not then I'll need to know more like your native resolution. Whoa, never again. @ Kinnarivex - You play on fov 115? Thats mental! Wth? Does fov differ on different screens or what? Ive found i cant go over 95 or the fisheye effect happens too much. {i play at 90, although im playing on an hdtv rather than a proper monitor @ 1920}. All a little confusing. On the other hand ive found as low as fov 05 is good for some nice well worked screenshots if your into that kinda thing. Around 20 is nice.
