Frostworn
I have been searching the forums for a solution to my problem, but I have not found one. So either a thread has not been posted on the topic, or I skipped it. Problem: Skyrim only plays on "Low" graphics setting. Tech Specs: Windows7 64-bit; Intel Core2Quad Q9550 @2.83GHz; Nvidia GeForce GTX 465 Fermi (1024MB); 6GB RAM. Unfortunately I have no idea what the problem is. When I start the game, the app runs extremely smoothly regardless of graphics setting. I can see my saved game, but when I try to load it, the game freezes on the loading screen and only sound comes through, but it's randomly distorted. If I try any option besides the Low graphics setting--including improving even one advanced graphics setting--this is the result. Attempted solutions: The audio fix, updating video card drivers, and verifying cache integrity. Any help is greatly appreciated :)
InAComaDial999
Are you running any mods? I'd suggest resetting your drivers to their default configuration in the nvidia app. I would also delete (or rename) your skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini, so that the game recreates them. No, not running any mods yet. I restored the defaults to my video card in the Nvidia application and the game runs great! No further action was taken or required. In an attempt to reverse-engineer the bug, I ran through the performance options in the Nvidia app, eventually arriving at the same selections I originally had. Even with all previous selections on (max quality settings), there was still no issue with the game. Thank you very much InAComa! :)
