odoacro
Instead of editing my previous post, I'll just enhance it... The idea of balancing the juggernaut/ninja playstyle would be nice. Imagine that you're planning to be one of then - well, let's make things more 'tricky': one does not simply becomes a stealthy ninja assassin with 99% of the stack filled - potions, coins, weapons and stuff... and, if you're planning on heavy armor usage, well, then you simply can't carry that fancy backpack (tools, pans and cups hanging, if it's the case) with all that daedric armor on! Instead of only eyecandying the game, you present new challenges. I even though of implementing a 'size stack' style inventory (like Diablo), but a friend of mine convinced me of quitting this idea, where the whole engine of the game would need to be messed (he guesses). Even so, with a more complete set of inventories (different packs, a number of different packs player can carry - I think a trinket-like pouch (for coins, gems, rings and necklaces), a belt/sack like thing (for potions, ingredients, food and drinks), and a proper backpack (different sizes, with 'bonus' or 'penalties', and even 'magic'/enchanted ones - like one that allows extra ore/metals, or extra weapons), and maintain or incorporate the arrow quivers. Oh, and let's not forget the horse pouches, maybe only with 'premium' horses and such. Depending how the wagon-mod ideas go, they might play a part on the inventory, as well as with the horse pouches. And, finally but not least, the idea of only inventory not allowing the freeze-time. In my POV, that should be a wizard/sorcerer advantage over the hulking juggernaut or the deadly assassin. I've seen people complaining on the few advantages of wizardry - I do believe such a mod would help a lot balancing it. Really know that all these dreams will only be allowed to know if feasible or not after the CK arriving. Well, I'll just 'dream my dreams' of a more adventurous dungeon looting... phantur
Because the general populace wouldn't like it. Bethesda has to cater to the masses, those who give them their paycheck. :P Anyway, I understand wanting immersion... but I would hate to have a giant backpack on my back. It would ruin my assassin immersion. :P Anyway, using my imagination, all I have to say is: magic. :D Magic pockets! ^^
Allephus
Three words friend. I thought those were the three words. :wallbash: I lose. X-D So....a cool thing about a great, old game called Gothic was the ability to carry around a pan and chicken and go to any campfire and fry it. But with technology these days...and with how simple things could be ANYWAY...you could easily make some bare essential items. However...then comes the complexity...because if all you want is an aesthetic look along with some extra carry weight, THAT'S one thing. But if you want some beds and camping gear...well then I'd say if you had the need for it, then it'd be great. Dark Stone, while a really crappy game, had a great hunger/thirst system. The more you fought, the hungrier you got. So it COULD tie into that. Personally, I like the entire idea. But a more realistic take on making the mod would be the subtlety you've suggested. A backpack, belt, fanny pack, arm and leg holsters...how about the appearance of my off-handed weapon? That'd all be nice. Basic, unenchanted itesm, that still affect your carry weight. But then....that would still require, like somebody said previously, the coding of additional slots. Which, since it was a very early mod already, I don't see how it'd be difficult to do now..well I do since I'm not a programmer but seeing all the stuff everyone has done...point made. With this, it'd be nice to add the ability to the interface for having keybound items passed 8. Maybe even some hotkeys adding further function of the keyboard and more power to the interface. Just as well, it'd be great if these extra slot items augmented your favorites menu, depending on the type of items they held...perhaps even reducing the favorites menu to be entirely contingent on which bag you're selecting, such that...when you want to quickly access an item, you press.....f8, and that brings up your leg band with your potions. If you want to pull the axe that is trapped horizontally to your back, you press....f10. But all of that overcomplicates a simple matter:Aesthetic slot holders that represented what you contain in your favorites menu while also adding some additional weight...like...5 or 10lbs, would be great. It'd also be kinda nice to limit their capacity. Or if they only served as an aesthetic function, then that wouldn't really matter at all. Because the general populace wouldn't like it I don't know about that, honestly. They may not want super realism...and that IS true...but I know a lot of people would appreciate the subtle things...such as....your arrow pack displaying the amount of arrows you have up until a certain point..(which is like...8-11 or something...). When I first noticed that, I flipped s***! Haha.
miscdude
Here's a fun little thought for assassin or thief characters who don't like the idea of carrying a backpack around. Why not have the backpack act like a chest, you open it and put things in it, but if you activate it crouched or with some hotkey pressed it just went on your back? That way, you don't really equip it, and you can just take it on or off as exactly what it is meant to be; portable storage. That's all I really use my companions for anyways, I just leave them outside when I'm sneaking into a house or something, and when I'm all encumbered from a dungeon I whirlwind myself out of the place and load up my companion with my stuff in the same way a backpack could be used. Maybe something similar could be used for a little campsite, you carry it on your back and when its dequipped it throws down a bedroll and fire n such on the ground.
