bben46
Yes, it is most likely a incompatible mod. First, before tearing your hair out removing and adding mods, check to be sure you are running the newest Oblivion patch - available on the Bethesda site. There are patches for several languages there, be certain you download the one that matches your version. It could also be a mod that needs something else, such as OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender)- If you have OBSE, check the version. It is up to version 0014 now, but very few mods need the newest. Usually the read me for the mod will tell you if it needs OBSE (or some other program) to work and what version you need. It could also be a load order problem. As your post indicated you are still using the start that came with the game, I would recommend downloading and using Oblivion Mod Manager - usually abbreviated to OBMM. This will not only allow you to more easily select (and unselect) the mods for troubleshooting, but it will try to load your mods in the correct order - It has worked well for me with many mods installed. Then, if you still need help, give us a list of your active mods, the version of Oblivion you are using, and any patches you have installed. Load order would be helpful too. And sometimes, you just get a corrupted download and have to re download.
berood001
Yea you need to use WYRE BASH. I like it better than OBMM, but I have used both. Most likely you are using a mod that requires another esb esm file, and yet you dont have that file. Wyre Bash will tell you exactly what you are missing. If you insist on not learning how to use a mod manager. Add one mod at a time until you figure out which one is causing the crash.
bben46
Wyre Bash is a great program, but a little daunting for a beginner. Wyre Bash actually gives you too much information at that level. that's why I recommend OBMM. its easier for someone who has never done this kind of thing to grasp. Then after they gain some experience, they can move up to Bash.
