ZeroTorrent
Many people on various Elder Scrolls sites have reported the Ebony Blade in Skyrim as quite buggy. The bug that gets the most publicity is the mismatched skill dictation - the Blade uses 1h skill to determine damage, while being a 2h weapon itself. Looking deeper into the Ebony Blade shows that nearly all its features reflect a 1h weapon - it attacks as fast as a 1h sword, it is classified as a 1h sword for purposes of perks and enhancements, it uses the 1h sound files for attacking, sheathing, and unsheathing, its physical force is equal to a 1h weapon. Adding to the mystery, the Ebony Blade has appeared in 3 other Elder Scrolls games as a 1h sword. In fact, the only 2h features it has are the aesthetics like the texture and mesh, equip type, and the skill it raises on use. Because of this, I decided to tackle the project of turning the Ebony Blade into what I believe is its intended handedness. Changing the equip type to make it a 1h sword was a simple feat, and I subbed in an Akaviri Katana graphically for the time being. Whether or not I attempt to retexture it to its former glory remains to be seen, but that's hardly the issue I'm having. The thing that's got me stuck thus far is finding out how to change the skill raised on use from 2h to 1h. Except for this one bit, the sword functions fine. It looks, sounds, and behaves like a 1h weapon, except for the incorrect skill gain. I've so far looked through the Ebony Blade and various other weapons' data, but can't seem to find what value dictates the skill increase. Does anyone have any idea where this value is stored? ZeroTorrent
Found it. For those interested in doing similar changes, I found the hex value to change was in the weapon's DNAM sub-record, 5 rows down, and 4 values from the right. I've included a screenshot that highlights this particular value. That 06 was an 07. Immediately upon changing it, the one-handed skill started raising on usage. Hope my trial and error can help somebody else out. Edited December 6, 2011 by ZeroTorrent

ZeroTorrent
I play 1h and like the ebony blade very much so this mod would def be appreciated! I had to clean the mod up a bit. Since I had just done this for a personal edit initially, I copied some bits from other mods (like upgrading for the Ebony Blade). Those are removed now and the mod can be found here. wulphius
To give you some enlightenment on why the Ebony Blade (aka Stormbringer) is a 1h weapon with 2h weapon aesthetics and skill gain I'll give you some background on Elric of Melnibone. He is a character of Michael Moorcock's creation: An anemic and introverted sorcerer-prince from the sadistic culture of Melnibone. He is ever the antihero and the tragic prince known simply as the Eternal Champion, doomed to wield the sword Stormbringer as the price he pays to the Chaos Lords of which he reluctantly serves under their patronage. Without the sword Stormbringer, Elric could barely lift himself out of bed, much less lift his sword arm in defense of his home isles. However, Stormbringer is more than just a weapon, it draws the life force from it's victims, feeding an insatiable hunger and lending some strength to it's wielder. The sword feasts on the blood of foes but hums with even greater power when it seeks to devour on the blood of the Eternal Champion's companions, somehow feeding off of not only their life force but also the loss and grief felt from it's wielder. It stirs less for bloodshed when it has fed off of these trusted friends more. When Elric is in a battle with Stormbringer, he very often fights against the sword's bloodlust more than any foes it faces, hence having to wield it with both hands to keep it from swinging wildly in complete disregard to friend, foe, or even the welfare of even the person who brandishes it. I'd like to see a mod based off the Ebony Blade, with the island of Melnibone and surrounding lands as the modification. Expansion of Conjuration spells according to the Daedric Lords personalities, tragic sea battles, and Daedric Lords that demand tasks from the Eternal Champion to keep him in their good (?) graces.
