I take it that the "command" dome aka the FEV Dead-space horror house is one entity? With other domes around it, right?

How many domes are we going to see? I think that rather than seeing a "real" agriculture dome, we just see the caravans and/or supplies and read about it... perhaps there's a separate/special "green" monorail for the biodome supplies?

Color codes, anyone? There could be different variations for different purposes, i.e. a purple high-exec all access speed car, a red medical/service car, etc...

Speaking of which, even though there would probably be dedicated agri-domes, all of the facilities would probably have hydroponics labs or greenhouses, at least enough to support the population, just in case...

so as a followup, the command dome could have a "small" biodome, which would offer a haunted cornfield experience... ;D

It wouldn't be as mutated as the jungle, mostly feral ghouls, with the Gen Saff ghouls able to enter and leave with impunity.

maybe there are inbred human clans (redneck with a shotgun? Zombie survival siege?) and/or a blood-feud between two family groups badass enough to ignore the ferals, with a third cannibal-psycho house thrown in for good measure) to offer some interactions..

Well so far we had talked about two dedicated agri-domes, one still working properly and still supplying while the other was cut off (by creatures or terrain changes) that would be the Morlock/Eoli one. If the dome had some greenery area I can easily see them growing supplimentary food though.

Hadn't pictured the Gen Saff as ghouls but as humans, though a couple of them hanging around would definitely work as long as the mainframe didn't off them.

I can definitely see one of the domes near the Command dome being a full on park to give the full nature experience, instead of the just taste of greenery in the Recreation area I envisioned. Perhaps that would be a good place for the inbred human tribe (though that would be a really small group I'd think) living off the animals in the park and what grows there.

The way I see it, and why I envisioned the Command dome so extensive, is that this project was planned to be the heart of the settlement after Mars was completely terraformed and the Enclave moved in. I've even had an idea of how they planned to do this once they had their terraforming plan complete, a series of G.E.C.K warheaded missiles!

Can you see the hook there? What, that the Enclave has planned, has ever gone completely according to plan? I'm thinking, someone got the documents mixed up, or they overshot, or the fusion motors in the rocket itself went critical...

Cue up radiation and explosions, mixed with the GECK, throw in a smattering of indigenous underground life, and we have a perfect explanation of the glowing pools of radiation on the surface and a potential outbreak of mad mutant GECK Jungles all over the planet.

Well I was thinking more the jungle that they are in is from one going off from the attack by the Chinese but the rest were never launched which is why Mar's hasn't become totally living and jungle covered yet.

If they had launched the atmosphere would be far closer to normal if not normal by now with more jungles like the one we have in the area.

(gahhh friggin resets of the page cutting me off) However, the rest of the missiles may be repairable and launchable still if you clear out the silos, which would be an awesome final questline to get them cleared and operational for the mainframe. That would be a really good way to get it to allow you to leave helping it complete one of it's main directives, after you convince it you won't be infecting Earth anyway.

But what if the rockets were still in their silos? And there is that pesky problem of an AI obsessed with terraformation...

Just reread the post.

Seems you DID see that hook after all. It's a good one ;)

One thing I should say is there should be a choice. Having read Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy, I find the idea of a split between those who want to keep the Red planet in it's ancestral state (bolstered in their beliefs by the presence of indigenous life and potential damage a reducing atmosphere would wreak on the existing ruins of the "Ancients"), and the Greens who want to turn it into a new Utopia (bolstered by the fact that... well... humans need air and plants and water to thrive) utterly fascinating.

It would make for a good oportunity to ask the kinds of questions all good Science Fiction (with capitol letters) should ask, and also for the New Vegas Faction system.

For the record, I'm a Red.

Dome size approval shots

Yeah that's in the neighborhood of what I'm thinking too. Leaving it a little flexible depending on what all we decide to include in the agi dome storylines. I'm guessing they'll end up being a little bigger, maybe double, but we'll see where the story takes us.

All the lore is there and gives us a great starting base from which to launch our narrative. If the Mars mission goal was to prepare the planet for the arrival of those "lucky" American citizens then agricultural biodomes make perfect sense. An increased military presence also makes sense, as the new world would need a strong hand to rule it.

Well I believe the agricultural domes are a foundation for just about any scenario because of basic food production. And the military is similarly a basic foundation to protect the base against Chinese activities. So both of those fit comfortably in all the scenarios we've discussed so far.

My ideal focus for the narrative would be terraforming.........It would undoubtedly be used in attempts to manafacture an ecosystem for Mars. The breeding of flora and fauna that could survive on the planet surface would be essential in the creation of a self-sustaining ecosystem. The F.E.V strains being used would be far removed from the weaponised versions on Earth.....Anyway, short summary, I'd like the focus to be terraforming.

I think your probably over reaching this conclusion. If you could terraform Mars, terraforming fallout's earth would be much easier. The atmosphere, soil, protective UV layer, temperature etc etc of fallout's earth are much more hospitable than Mars. If the tech existed to terraform Mars the player would ask "why wasn't this just used to renew earth?". The height of technology is the (fallout 3 ver) of the geck. But even being the height of fallout tech it can't do much more than a small area (very, very small in comparison to even regional scale terraforming).

So my viewpoint is partly coming from lore, but also because I wan't to preserve the essence of Mars. A harsh environment that makes the earths wasteland's look positively inviting in comparison. I guess as Jeoshua said I'm a red as well.

But I do understand how you feel re: the terraforming and you don't have to worry it will be an important focus in the mod and I think you'll get a lot of the mileage out of it that your looking for. But I believe it shouldn't be *the* thread that overshadows all others. It will share the story with other threads like research, the military conflict etc.

For example I was mentioning to AG that'd I'd like to have a heavy, armored turret armed with a .50BMG anti-material rifle near the base perimeter to deal with Chinese light armored vehicles. I wouldn't be able to do that if the military conflict theme wasn't part of the story, there wouldn't be any reason for that weapon to be there. By including several themes we really enrich the mod.

Where are you in terms of help on this project? Have you got a good team going now, or are you still short on help?

I'm afraid we are in dire need of help. I'v had some success with rigged (mostly various bots) and static models, but saying I'm a modeler would be going to far. Kibblsticks has done some great work for us in re: to models. But currently we're mostly hammering out the various storylines. Whats killing me is the lack of time (work etc), other projects (sunset and another small one that should be out this weekend are active, plus two inactive ones I'd really like to get up and running) and trying to do a "jack of all trades" on this project. But I'm bumbling through scripting, and starting to learn some aspects of nif and blender animation.
