....so much potential but it was like they rushed it to production half done..

I hear you, for the end all of earth shaking showdown it wasn't exactly what a lot of people were hoping for.

love that you have a useful follower planned for it.

I think he'll be really handy. Presper has a huge advantage, he has a team, he has every over ride code all the way to omega level, intimate knowledge of the systems (he worked with them all the time before he was frozen), knowledge of the base itself and it's various facilities etc etc.

But he doesn't have Curiosity. And Curiosity has speant 200+ years avoiding security, FEV horrors, bio weapons etc and learning every in and out of virtually everything in the crater. If there's a way in, out or through, chances are Curiosity has done it. There's also some mini companion quests, like retrieving his radar dish (that he painfully severed, to destroy the remote control link) to upgrade his arsenal (gives him a microwave weapon and an emp burst), as well as allowing him to "hack" (hack as in fry) sensitive electronics like electronic locks. He also needs some items like new bio-gel (his is 200+ years old).

So I see a lot of instances where he can be very handy, I just have to make alternate solutions for the players to accomplish the same goals without him (hate forcing a player, would rather give options than ultimatums).

What would be really cool is flipping the follower/leader set up in some spots if possible. Telling Curiosity "lead the way" or "do you know a safer path?" and it taking off with you following.

Definitely, part of his value will be in knowing a way in, out or through potential problems\locations etc. I'll probably include some R2-D2 moments, like cute little whistles/sounds when he's scared or surprised, to add some character. And depending on the source of his brain (dog, chimp, human) some personal behaviors. I'm sort of leaning toward dog due to it's companion-able behavior and the possibility that at the end of the mod he could be brought back to OWB and be given a cyber dog body (becoming a permanent companion).

Also for the sci-fi mashup/gamma world mod, I think we should incorporate the techno gods.

I'll check with trooper and see if he's going to use the idea in his Hawaii mod. I get the impression he probably won't, but even if he does they'll be Aztec themed and ours could be Egyptian themed (or another). I like the Egyptian mythos because; everyone seems to have some knowledge of it, it was incredibly widely varied with a huge amount of lore (chalk that up to one of the longest lived dynasties on earth?), the gods themselves are mostly humanoid (albeit with animal faces) which shouldn't be too hard to model, and they have an air of mystery/aloofness that the more straightforward gods such as the nordic or greek lack.

I don't know if they should be in the walking city or if that would dilute both ideas by mixing them together.

EDIT: scratch that idea. If we go with the Egyptian mythos, there should be a pyramid that looks like a modern skyscraper (ie composed of glass and steel, reflecting everything around it like a mirror), something like this surface;

And it should be in teh middle of or hovering in mid air above large still rectangular pools like the Taj Mahal.

All going off the idea that it was a (pre-war) business park of a very wealthy company, now the seat of their power. The floating pyramid would be good to emphasize the separation of the "gods" from their subjects and as a defensive obstacle.

Anyway I'll try to put up a separate thread for the gamma world mod soon. Since that mod, of all our mods, has the potential for the greatest sheer mass of possible ideas. I just want to make one other pitch for a dark tower project in the FO world first.

Heh oh yeah I agree if we go with the Egyptian gods as a theme we should do something like the Luxor Casino http://housedesignarchitecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/luxor-egypt-concept.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j-FlkYiPvpM/Tnly2wdYKuI/AAAAAAAADSA/Re2AA1sOXoI/s1600/Luxor-Las-Vegas2.jpg

Huge black mirrored pyramid/skyscraper. (and hey we are modding NV...why not crib from the real Vegas?)

Though with the idea of combining them with the walking city...perhaps the leader of the trade city utopia (and I realized doing a couple of them would be awesome one the wonderful trade city with a dark secret, the other the city full of mutants and ferals. Just put them in different areas, heck had the idea that the trade city one can be the only way to travel to a separate worldspace.) is a very enigmatic tech god ...something to contemplate anyway lol.

And yeah I was totally thinking R2 with the rover *chuckles* and hey...even if you give it a human brain it would make a cool brainbot/ robobrain if you can bring it back and give it a new body. I've seen a mod to turn your brain into a brainbot companion....it may have been a ED-E replacer or it's own companion ..can't remember right now.

Like the god idea, but what about the greek gods? I mean, isn't everything in space named after them eg. Olympus Mons, the planets etc...

oh and I can only imagine what might happen iif the dual brain-bot's commie half learns that Curiosity "deserted" from its mission and ran for its life.

Might even be an either/or scenario, with one of the three brains (don't forget there's also the doctor trailing alongside/with the McCarthy officer, his reaction would be interesting...) biting the dust or something, but I think that the three-way arguments (maybe the doc is an old OWB dropout or something, perhaps too "pinko" for that project a la Arthur Miller, or has a personal/professional connection with the probe's robo-brain) would be morbidly hilarious.

Brief summ of the bot's story-

the Chief a Center-right red-blooded american officer, chief of security on a major base; close friend and confidant of the left-leaning

Doctor, who is his disgruntled companion in their tin hell.

the Chief covered for the doc's "pink" tendencies, even as the doc covered for the outright red sympathies of some of his colleagues..

this backfired when a subordinate sabotaged something, harming the Chief personally and/or hurting one of his relatives.

IF we have him with a family (cliche and I doubt they'd want messy stuff like that on Mars, see for instance NASA's ban on having spouses on the same mission) then the son/relative starts dying/mutating from radiation and/or FEV, this after the chief gives several "purist" rants to the staff. He can't stick to his guns and goes mad with his family. or something like that.

Some really good points. I want to expand on them, but I think I better wait til we split the thread or we're just going to confuse people

even if you give it a human brain it would make a cool brainbot/ robobrain if you can bring it back and give it a new body.

True. The official robobrains were supposed to be chimps (according to general atomics official/public story), but as we all know, convicts go thrown into the mix. Plus there is/was a canine one called toto that was Dorthy's companion (FO1 or 2? can't remember) I read about in the wiki.

I also tend to think canines were used before chimps (being simpler brains) but I can't verify that. But it makes sense and fits the timeline, as the probes were sent *before* robobrains were coming online. So I'm leaning toward a canine in Curiosity. It would help to explain his behavior in re: to the player, if he/she resembles a former owner Curiosity had strong feelings for.

But regardless of the origin, we can definitely throw in the robobrain option you propose. I tend to think if he was a pup, he'll want to run on all fours again, whereas a robobrain is pretty close to what he already is (but he'll be bigger and have arms), but nothing wrong with having the option for the player to encourage a full Robobrain transplant.

I think I've asked for Luxor before. with possibly some of those Neko folks mods to represent Bast or Sekmet, now how about Anubis, Thoth, Set, Ra, Hastur, Horus, Isis, Nephantus etc....

Sounds good VaultPi, I'm just going to reply to those deity related possibilities in a new thread so we don't confuse the mars project thread....catch you there
