How to modify game sounds

First, make sure that your new audio is in .xwm format (if it's sfx) or .fuz (if it's dialogue)

To replace audio, simply rename the replacer so it has the same file name as the file being replaced, then copy, paste, overwrite. Make sure you create a backup of whatever file your overwriting first!

If you need to convert .wav etc to a sound format that Fallout4 can use, there are plenty of converters available over on Skyrim nexus.

Would I use FO4Edit to find out what the sound files are?

Manually download the Bethesda Archive Extractor (have a read of the description on the main page)

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/78/?

and use that to extract the contents of the Fallout4 - Sounds.ba2

(it'll be in Steam/SteamApps/common/Fallout4/Data folder)

This contains all the sound files that the game uses, and it's useful to have them all for future modding.
