GPU loads relation to displayed frames per second

Recommended Posts

This is a tricky one. Thing is, I have 60Hz monitor, so basically it cannot display more than 60 FPS, although Fraps (or any other frame counter tool) can show even up to 200 but I won't see the difference on my screen. Do I understand it correctly? If I do, there's a question:

Say, I have a game that works on 75 FPS and there's no way to cap it at 60. Does my GPU gets more load from this, even though it doesn't display those 75 FPS and I only see real 60?

You can force VSync on in the Nvidia or AMD control panel and it will be capped at 60.

Thanks, good to know and no, I'm aware about VSync (I have it ON all the time in CP for all apps and OFF in all games) and it doesn't cap this particular game. I have already solved it with RivaTuner, it was the only way.

Yes, it's pretty awkward stuff to be honest. I just experimented, set Adaptive V-Sync Half Refresh Rate and game was giving me 38-40 FPS... So NCP setting weren't ignored, but why it's thinking that I have 75Hz screen is a mystery, no other game have ever done that. And yes, V-Sync for me is crucial, I even have it on in MP games, can't stand screen tearing and having locked FPS is better for my eyes and GPU both.
