Computer reboots by itself

Check to make sure you have the correct power supply for you're machine... Vid cards are using a fair amount of power these days a decent card will use 400+ watts plus you're pc will need about 200 to 300 watts.. you want a fairly big power supply 760 watts or more depends on how much power you're card or cards use.

Restarting pc's are usually a power sup problem or surge issue but i also agree that it could be from overheating of the vid card but that doesn't usually shut you down you may just get a black screen while the pc is still running.

Problem solved !

I just installed a Corsair 650w PSU, and now Kombustor doesn't reboots my computer. I launched Skyrim and was able to load my savegame without trouble. It has to be confirmed by some gaming hours, of course, but it looks like it was a PSU power problem.

It may also proove something: Skyrim does stress the GPU more than it should in my opinion, even with the lowest settings at the lowest resolution, as I was able to play any other game I tried with the old PSU. I mean 3D games like Assassin's Creed Revelations or Witcher 2 for example.

Thanks everybody for your advices

Glad you solved your problem Kerid!

As for your initial puzzlement over Skyrim being the only game that caused your reboot issue, I understand - but it's often just one program that stresses your system in some weird way that can reveal a faulty piece of hardware's achilles heel.

For instance, I was playing a full suite of new-ish games back in '09 - Stalker, Crysis, Medieval 2, the works. And yet this one game, Freespace 2 with the SCP mods would cause my system to reboot spontaneously. I couldn't believe my hardware was at fault cause certainly my other games were more stressful right? A few months later my PSU fails completely.

So modded FS2 was simply stressing the system in a way the other games weren't, despite the fact that it certainly wasn't the most technically sophisticated title in my collection...
