onewinged20 Posted September 24, 2016 Share Posted September 24, 2016 This isn't so much a mod request, I guess, as a request for more resources for a mod I've been working on. I didn't see any more-appropriate forum to post it in, though. So I've been fooling around a lot lately with .esps to understand Armor Addons and such, and found a new way to implement Vampires Fight With Claws that I'm a lot happier with than the original. This new method changes the SkinNaked armor and the vanilla vampire races and requires no edits to outfits or individual NPCs, and doesn't require crafting the claws. So this new implementation doesn't require any updates or compatibility patches for other mods that edit NPCs or outfits (USLEEP, Clothing & Clutter Fixes, NPC appearance mods, Weapons & Armor Fixes, etc). I also think it would be pretty simple to add implementation for custom races if one were so inclined, but I've never used any custom race mods, so I'm just making an educated guess. I've contacted the original author, wgperi, and he's pretty stoked about it, too, and we plan to release this new ESP soon. Now the reason I'm posting about it here: although we now have much easier and more compatibility-friendly vampire claws, I'm not so thrilled with the way the claws actually look, especially the ones on the thumbs. I imagine they look fine in the vanilla game, but with a high resolution replacement for 1st person hands (which I imagine just about everyone is using these days), the relatively low fidelity claws are a bit jarring. So I'm hoping I can attract the interest of someone with mesh editing/creating skills to bring vampire claws into 2016. Or if anyone knows of some existing meshes for claws on humanoid hands that I might want to look at and ask to use, please let me know. Thanks! I have modelled this a few weeks ago but right now don't have the time or the inspiration to go on, but I'd like to share a bit of what it is and check if anyone can take up from here to start with. renthal311 Posted September 26, 2016 Share Posted September 26, 2016 is ok, with sharp peaks are much narrower poly, I do not know if the texture will look good, but it is only speculation, you have to do texture and see the effect of the nails, then you can possibly improve the mesh, you do not have textures to the meshes? wgperi Posted September 26, 2016 Share Posted September 26, 2016 Oh you're being too generous Renthal lol I've checked some youtube videos of people modeling faces in Zbrush and I felt depressed and completely trashed. When starting from the literal zero, and after hitting a bunch of walls and have halved the hair in my head I was honestly impressed with the model achieved, until I checked the professionals, and boooom :mindblown that is a whole new level, the people working on Skywind for instance, some incredible artists, I've seen a speed modeling for a landscape mushroom, the hi-poly final model is incredible and the modeling process is just astonishing to watch. I could spend a whole month working on this and the result would still be something fundamentally flawed, but for amateurish and self modding it feels satisfying for some degree. I understand you gotta work within two objectives, a hi-poly to be used later for texturing and that contains all the details you planned and the low-poly to be used in game. This model is unfortunately on the low-poly level, with many flaws but it can be improved of course, but I don't know much how to do it towards a more standing quality. wgperi Posted September 26, 2016 Share Posted September 26, 2016 Whoa, these look sick, as far as I know onewinged20 has a female dark elf so these textures should suit him perfectly, especially if the character is a mage, burned out nails from casting fireballs. I'm yet to see onewinged20's implementation of the mod, he is changing the way it works to include the claws to the naked vampire skin armor, so it will be native for vampires to have claws. After the texturing is ready there is only the trouble to replicate the weighting and the bones, I got stuck on that a few weeks ago, but I do remember getting them right last year, so that shouldn't be a grave issue. And do small adjusts to fit both female_0 & _1 and male_0 but don't worry about that. Way to go Renthal, thanks a lot.
