Help request: applying pre-existing animations to ingame objects

Hi everyone,

 

So I'm trying to get the rake/hoe animation from the vanilla game to apply to the pickaxe (I'm trying to mod in miners who, ya know, mine stuff). So I successfully got the game to recognize the vanilla rake/hoe animation as applying to the pickaxe. Trouble is, the NPCs are swinging invisible picks. Any ideas?
