Upcoming: Companion New Daily Hairstyle mod

Description:

I have a working script that, using the Companion Sandbox mod, Mikoto's beauty pack and the Type 3 Cute Country Cass mod (in my version, will not use this for actual release), changes Cass' hairstyle and clothing each time she enters sandbox mode, depending on time of day, whether she is indoors or outdoors, and day of the week. I cycle her between 11 different hairstyles from Mikoto's Beauty Pack that go with her default hairstyle (as in the Country Girl default), and 15 different outfits, all of them matched well to the current hairstyle, as well as to her personality.

So basically that is 2 x 2 x 7 different times when her hairstyle/outfit can be different, and there are few repeats.

  •
  • Generally during the day she is less formal, and if outdoors, more sporty. Indoors she will be a bit cuter.
  • At night she will be more made up, and if indoors will generally go more classy (within the limits of Cass' hard personality!).
  • For friday and saturday nights, she dresses very posh, although still a bit rough round the edges.

The hairstyle persists after going back into normal mode ("Let's get going"), but the outfit returns to the armor you have her wearing.

2 Ideas of my own for final release:

1. Have all clothes and hair preset and hard coded into the mod.

Advantages

  • Easier for me! (no annoying FVSE menus etc...)
  • More spontaneous for the user
  • Easier to set up

Disadvantages

  • Less flexible for the user
  • Will be far less compatible

2. Allow user to choose clothing (i.e. a menu to select "1. Day: sports outfit", "2. Day: casual outfit" ... "11. Night: posh outfit" ... etc. etc. may also do for hairstyle if I can be bothered to create wigs...)

Advantages:

  •
  • More flexible
  • More compatible with other mods (although right now I'm not sure how I'll get it working to equip clothing from other mods)

Disadvantages

  • More time consuming for the user to set up
  • Will take me far longer to make!
  • Will feel more like they are your slave, than your companion.

Suggestions Wanted:

  •
  • I am going to make this into an official mod pretty soon, so I would like some requests and suggestions. Firstly, which mods are people using for their companions? I am aware that the Cute Country Cass isn't as popular as some of the others, and for this mod to be relevant, I would have to have it designed for the most popular companion mods (as the hairstyle variations would need to be based on the default).
  • Also, should I have it so that just the hairstyle changes, and use the Improved Companion Sandbox mod for her clothes?
  • What outfits and hairstyles (from which mods if not vanilla) do you think would go with each companion?
  • Any other suggetsions or requests?

I am aware that the Improved Companion Sandbox mod allows you to select which outfit she wears whenever you send her sandboxing, but this changes her hair as well, and I like the idea of not actually having to choose what she wears each time (it feels more like she is "surprising" you, rather than she is your slave - despite the fact that I wrote the mod....I mean there are 28 different combinations and I have forgotten them!)

When did we get the ability to change NPC hairstyles? Or are you giving her different wigs or something?

I got round it using the AgeRace command, and gave her 11 ages, each with it's own default hairstyle. This is why it's not possible to allow the users to select the hairstyles (as far as I know) in-game. Using wigs could be an option though.

My Brisa mod does about 77 hair styles in-game. The Wendy one, a dozen or so. Using matchrace.

Both very clever....

I thought matchrace screwed up the face. So are you saying you made 77 different races, only changing the hairstyle, to allow you to have so many hair choices?

I'm going to say I am too lazy to make 77 different races, instead of saying I never would have thought to do it.

2. Allow user to choose clothing..

You could use something like QuickClothes.esp mod which I use for F3. You have to wear up to I think 9 clothing selections each of which is then saved and assigned to key. It least their script would be worth a look.

The 77 races are copies of the NPC's original race, so the face geometry is preserved. Then you set the default hair for each race - this becomes the hair when you matchrace.

Matchrace needs a reference, so you need to place an NPC for each race in a dummy cell to matchrace against. And make sure 'younger' and 'older' races are set to 'none' in all the races.
