If the mod in question doesn't have an esm/esp file (such as texture replacers) it won't be listed in the right side plugins tab so you can also disable the mod by unchecking the box in the left side column. As far as I can tell you can disable by unchecking from either list. If you uncheck it on the left side the plugin will no longer be visible on the right side plugins tab. If you uncheck from the plugins tab it's still visible in that tab. To be honest I'm not sure what the difference is otherwise in terms of disabling the mod. from the left vs right side list.
