A box for Septims

We all know that septims cannot be removed from your inventory except to use in purchasing. So I would like to propose the following:

A ‘chest’ that appears to be an open box (and indeed is an open box for the purposes of item placement). When you click on it, it gives two options : Pickup or Open, much like the Mannequin mod does with ‘modify inventory’ or ‘pick up’.

When you open the box, it gives a slider option and asks you how many septims you wish to place inside (from 0 to max, or from 0 to a limit (say 100)). Once you set the slider and click ‘ok’, the box closes. Now, appearing inside the open box top will be individual setpims equaling the number you placed inside the container.

You can now hover the cursor over the box to “grab” any individual coins you wish. In doing so, this will allow you to place the box down inside your house, place septims inside, and then ‘grab’ them so that you can place them wherever you wish (say on a scale, on a desk, on a table, etc).

Now if you reopen the box by activating it, any septims you placed inside will be gone (because they are now as objects in the world to be used or recollected. If you collect the box with septims on top of it, well they will just spill out all over the floor. This can cause some FPS issues if you have a lot flooding the floor, but that’s just something to think about so that you will only place perhaps 10 at a time inside.

I fell this would be very nice, as now I can wake up and see my spare change on my dresser or place them on a scale or on the table. Comments?

Impossible. The box is ok, it would just be an activator and not a container. Removing septims is ok, but placing them in the box is not so ok. Depending on the size of the box, there will be a limit. Also, several hundred coins will cause serioud lag, even if they're not moving. The movement doesn't cause lag; it's the placement of several hundred items. The impossible aspect is moving the coins. You could move them, but there's no way to detect if the coin is still "in" the box. As such, those coins will still be listed as "in" the box; they just won't be physically in it.

The stupidest thing in all this is that one could simply make a mod that allows the player to drop coins. Actually, someone did try that, but it caused serious lag.

this a great idea but where the box be?

What if a spell was created to drop say 100 septims at a time? that way you could repeatedly find big chunks of money at your feet. But like morrowind, for the purpose of time time issues, it could be one object of 100 coins. That way you could move it to where ever and then activate, making each individual coin, well... individual.

Well it would be like containers that respawn, only the –respawn- happens when you activate it, so that’s why the coins wouldn’t be ‘in’ the box anymore, just on top of it. Yes I know that all those items would be seriously laggy if not crashy, so perhaps only 10 at a time.

And the ‘box’, or ‘bowl’ or whatever, could be located in the market district of the imperial city, free to pick up. It’s just there for flavor element to allow the player to place coins in the world.

I know nothing of scripting as I know nothing of C+ programming, but I would wager the work involved wouldn't be that hard (I hope).

Or as mentioned, a single "coin" worth 100 or such, so you can role play out that it's a 100 denomination token coin, much like if you drop say 100 calipers, it's one item with the number 100 on it.

I think there already was a mod somewhere that let you drop bags or piles of money. I believe it had serious issues with it because of the scripting needed to make something like this work as well as having additional items in world that need to be tracked. The thing is that you can't drop a certain amount of money like that, what you drop needs to be in preset denominations so that you don't have to use additional scripting just to remember what was dropped. As with all the recent gold mod suggestions, this isn't practical. Nevermind the whole "being able to move and interact with the box" part, that is simply a bad idea As much as you may want to add some realism to the game, these sorts of things don't pan out well. In this case, it is largely because gold coins are one of those special items in the CS that have a hard coded function associated with them. any attempt to emulate that function with other objects through creation or scripting on those objects is bad because of how the game deals with them. Activators and inventory enabled items that are placed in the world will persist where they are placed unless picked up. Inventory items with scripts cannot reference themselves individually. Scripts on inventory objects remain stored in memory even when that object is no longer in existance.

I don't want to sound mean, but this idea is just bad.

Alright then I suppose the only alternitive would be a tray that always respawns ontop of it, one single septim at intervals that you can take up and place anywhere. This would involve no inventory interaction... yes it would spawn a gold piece but in this way, only -one- so it' not like it's making a soruce of infinite money...

I suppose, considering what you've written, this mod will not make ground however Thanks for at least the mention. Should I close this topic then?

The mod that allowed you to drop gold that I used (I think there was a second one that had the same problem) was called 'Gold Coin Bagger' you can find it here http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7452.

I tried it and it caused serious lag.

There is a chest that you can deposit specific amounts of gold into, it's part of Quartz's Glenvar Castle mod http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8235

But you have to complete the first quest before you can access it. This is one of the best quest mods out there, but also one of the most difficult but worth it.

Maybe you could get someone to pull the chest out as a separate mod.

There is also a mod that shows an open box with gold in it. It is an add on mod to the official Battlehorn Castle mod. it is called 'Batlehorn Castle Enhanced http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13853
