Question regarding merging plugins/mods

when you make a merge the assets from the mods get copied inside the merge this means the merge will overwrite the files from the single mods. you cannot have 2 identical texture in skyrim the one installed last will overwrite the previous one same for every other file.

I can merge armor, clothing, weapon mods as well as patches. Can I merge quest mods? Can I merge mods whose items have identical names? Can I merge mods that already have patches?

You also mentioned "navmesh", and many of my armor, clothing, weapon mods have tie-in quests. Are such mods mergeable? Merging mods with navmesh is a definite no-no right?

Can I merge quest mods? yes but it's better if you don't do it, things might break.

Can I merge mods whose items have identical names? yes (but if 2 mods have 2 different items with the same name you might want to remove one of them).

Can I merge mods that already have patches? yes but don't merge already merged mods (ex: SMIM-Merged-All).

Merging mods with navmesh is a definite no-no right? you can do it but if merge plugins gives an error that says you have to rebuild the navmesh you will need to rebuild it in the creation kit so that the navmesh of the merge is correct.

Can I merge everything else but avoid the navmesh? Like, using the Merge Plugin software to pick which I want to merge and leave the rest alone?

Also, where can I find the navmesh? Are they under the "Cell" and "Navigation Info Mesh" categories in the TES5edit or what?

P.S: I just made another merge, but there were messages like "Access violation at address 00000000" and "Socket Error # 10054". Any idea?

Quote from matortheeternal (the creator of merge plugins):

For all of you game and mod folders, and the merge plugins folder, do the following:
1. Take ownership of the folder and all files in it.
2. Unset read only on the folder and all files in it.
Other things you can try:
1. If you have an antivirus or firewall active (you do, trust me) try disabling it/making exceptions for Merge Plugins. Avast and Windows Defender have both been known to interfere with Merge Plugins functionality.
2. Try running Merge Plugins outside MO as an administrator.
3. Verify you have ALL of the files from the Merge Plugins archive in its installation folder. Missing the hardcoded dat file would be bad.

Hey man, after I made the first merge, I realize I want to uninstall the original mods in order to clean my mod list on NMM. Can I do that? What about optional files that add more to the base mod? Can I uninstall them as well? I am aware that the merge will merge all files from the original base mods, but whatabout the original optional files? Will that be merged as well?

yes if you merge the files you need to remove the original mods so you only have the merge. What do you mean with optional files the one you disable using MO?

I am sorry for confusing you. Its like I installed the optional files before merging. After merging, I uninstalled the original mods (I did not permanently delete them out of fear that something is broken). What I wanted to know is that, do the optional files, which added more stuffs or replace stuffs from the base mod, carry on inside the new merge? If not, what do I do? I have already installed all the merges and disabled all original files.

I also did not uninstall all the mods due to my fear that some of the textures would be missing from the new merge. The installation of the merges simply prompted me to override identical files inside the Data folder with files from merges. Is that ok? Did I mess something up? I followed your guide diligently and hoped for the best.

P.S: I do not under Mod Organizer (MO). I use NMM.

The optional files will probably say they are missing their master because is inside a merge if you want the optional files you should add them to the merge as well.

No that is right the merge just overwritten the files from the mods that are merged but you didn't disable. you should disable all the merged mods because everything from them is copied inside the merge you shouldn't loose anything.

Man, Just check a piece of armor from a mod I merged, and my fear was confirmed. No texture and invisible body! What do I do? Do I need to add the optional files to the data manually? Or do I have to uninstall all the merges and rebuild merges all over again?

  • 1 year later...

Recently I had to reinstall Merge Plugins from a fresh download.

I entered the same paths as before for the various functions, including where I kept my

merged plugins records, in my case in NMM in the SSE game folder.

However, when opened, my fresh copy of Merge plugins does not list any of my previous merges.

I have made new merges and these are being recorded in the same folder as before and the

new merges are in the merges list tab in Merge Plugins, but the previous merges are not

listed, tho' they are kept in the same folder in NMM.

If I click on the merged.esp while in Merged Plugins, it will accurately list the contents of the merge.

But how do I get my new copy of merge plugins to recognize my older merges?

I recovered my older copy of merged plugins and when activated, it still lists my older merges, but

will not recognize my new ones, both stored in the same folder in NMM.

It seems I must now must keep two copies of Merged plugins to reopen or change two sets of

merges kept in the same place!

Is there a simple way to get Merged Plugins to recognize all the merges in the recording folder?
