Will my computer be able to handle Skyrim + Mods

Hey guys,

Been playing Skyrim for about 88 hours now and I must say that I am quite impressed (If not disappointed by the bugs but hey, it's a Bethesda game.)! Now I was a huge Morrowind guy and had a few mods running on it (Building Up Uvirith's Legacy, Horatio Magic, Melian's Teleport Mod, MWSE, etc.) and I just started Oblivion and plan on modding that also. My question in regards to Skyrim is whether I will be able to mod the game with my current computer (A Laptop). Note that Skyrim recommended "High" Settings for my computer and the only tweaks that I made from those settings are that I A) turned off AA and AF until Bethesda fixes patch 1.2 [worked fine until that friggin patch] C) turned shadows and radial blur quality to low. Since then I have an average framerate of 60+ indoors, 30+ cities, and 50+ outdoors. Before the patch, I played with the default "High" for a good 50-60+ hours with no graphical issues whatsoever. However, due to my framerate dropping from 60-28-45-32-60-etc. randomly (Whoever made the New Vegas, Oblivion Stutter remover I'm looking at you ) in certain dungeons (Dwemer!) and cities (Markarth...) etc. I have downloaded and installed "FPS Limiter" and set that sucker to 30 so I can preserve my sanity ( I am a tad OCD haha) until Bethesda fixes whatever the heck they did. Now, I get a constant 30fps with occasional drops to 28 then back up to 30 and its smooth as a babys bottom.

Here are my specs:

ASUS G60vx

Intel Core 2 Duo p7450 @ 2.13ghz (I always enable "Extreme Turbo" under Processor Management in the Power4gear Hybrid mode, not sure if it does anything)

Nvidia Geforce GTX 260M with 2.7gb VRAM

4gb of RAm

Anyways, what do you guys think? I don't plan on texture mods ( Never used em in morrowind nor in Oblivion, I prefer the original game textures) and mainly just use A) game mechanic changes (Magic, teleportation, etc.) Housing mods, C) Quest/faction mods. That's it.

Thanks!

Mods definitely add a bit of a performance hit, but as long as you avoid major texture changes you should have no problems and be able to run it as well as you are now. Just remember in general, the more mods you get the slower it will run. When you get into running like 70 esp files (Oblivion on my old tower) the game gets slow, though your computer is much more capable than my old tower was  .

Haha thats good to know! The highest number of mods that I ever had running at any one time was 26 in morrowind. I tend to be EXTREMELY picky with my mods and only install ones that A) Fix bugs/glitches or B) Adds a house or a feature that I want. Occasionally I will install a quest mod/faction mod but the first 2 are my main ones. I just want to be sure that I can install me some house mods (and maybe a faction mod that brings the Telvanni into Skyrim...)

Morrowind was really well made I thought and only needed a few mods. Oblivion on the other hand... . I think I was running over 30 just to up the immersion of the game to a level which I liked. They could be as simple as fixing the height you looked over a table at, or darker nights, or enhanced lighting and thunde. Anyways, have fun with Skyrim  .

Haha yeah, I don't need any of those mods, the immersion is just fine for me! Thank you for confirming that I can play Skyrim just fine with mods installed!
